Last Summer I went to a fundraising dinner and bid on a closet system and got the winning bid! Hooray!
Then when Irma from STOR-X came out to give me a quote on the laundry room closet, it was much bigger than the closet I had won, so we decided to collaborate! And I’m so glad we did because now the organization in this closet makes me so happy!
Before
Before we get there, here is what my laundry room looked like when we took possession. This entire house was varying shades of the same taupe from light to dark and this one had a taupe backsplash and taupe cork flooring just in case there wasn’t enough taupe everywhere!
In 2023 I decided to paint it green because I had a green and taupe area rug. So I pulled out some greens from my large painted colour board collection and chose one:
Yes it was in my mural and did create flow, but I didn’t love it so I never even styled the room to work with it:
Then when I had to paint the closet so the system could be installed (below), I decided to choose a happier colour (and it’s a colour I’m going to add to my living room eventually anyway).
The design
Irma from Stor-X Organization (in White Rock/Surrey) came out to take measurements and show me the options (below). We also needed shelving for towels and linens downstairs because the only linen closet in the house was upstairs so the large shelf she designed was perfect.
You can see exactly what you’re getting virtually in her program (below):
Some pretty details
So I painted it Hermes orange, bought a new light fixture and now it’s perfect.
We also added a pull-out for lights and darks since this is the laundry room (below):
The after!
Here’s the after of the laundry room–which is much lower on the list of priorities to renovate–but now it’s just a happy place to be. And as taupe pairs beautifully with any shade of orange, I decided not to paint the backsplash, as both the countertop and the floor remain taupe for now.
So much better!
I had the plumber move the hose behind the washing machine so I covered up the hole with a piece of art.
And here is my distilled water machine. It takes out all the Round-up, chlorine, fluoride, pharmaceuticals, etc, etc that is in our water these days and we love it! You can get one here.
This is me so happy to be getting a closet makeover!
Here’s my closet after!

I remember when you painted your laundry room green and wondered why we never saw any updates. Now I know. It looks great! I want to change my laundry room into my main closet and this little makeover gives me a few ideas. Can’t wait to see your next project.
That color is the happiest color! Itâs full of joy and sunshine, just like you!

I love how the happy coIor goes with the flooring! Fabulous!
And the pull-out tip for me was that any shade of orange goes with taupe. Our house is all decorated with taupe, and I’m slowing changing it, but the carpet’s not going anywhere. I love orange. I can work with that!
Right? I consider myself to be good with color, but the taupe/orange combination surprised me!
I did not know it could be done.
That’s the happiest laundry room ever! Love the area rug too! Can you please share where to find
the area rug?
Yay to STOR-X for doing a collab with you! That closet looks amazing and so does your entire laundry room. That shade of orange is perfect and such a happy color! Also, great idea to cover up the hole with a picture. You are full of good ideas, Maria. Thanks!
The colour behind the organizing systems in the closet is really making it pop. It is truly a happy colour.
The transformation of that closet and the new wall color must have been supremely satisfying.
It really was! xo
Maria that orange laundry room is all YOU!!đI was surprised when you did it green. It just didnât seem like it had your vibe, to me. Now itâs exactly what I would connect to a you⌠a happy color! Gorgeous!!!
Thanks Cynthia! xo
And the flooring and backsplash brown/taupe could almost pretend to be the Hermès signature ribbon color, so now your laundry room looks like a big Hermes present.
Love the update with the orange!!!! Makes it so homey and cheery!!!! Love, love!!!
