The New Hollywood Regency

Last night in my colour class, I was having a conversation about interior design styles and one of my students pointed out an image in a magazine of an upholstered headboard in a graphic pattern and I said, “That’s very Kelly Wearstler” who is the queen of hollywood glam and drama. Not everyone knew who she was, so here are some of her interiors:

This is one of my favourite rooms from her own residence: Hillcrest Estate. Kelly loves yellow and it’s also my favourite colour! I especially love the oversize grapes on the coffee table. How great are they?

I prefer the warmer, more orangy yellow (above) this one is definitely more of a greeny/acid yellow but it’s still a great room.

Can you imagine having an outdoor space like this? I know a lot of this would be ‘styled’ for the photo but it is California so it could be real.

She managed to sneak in some yellow here with the lemons!

It’s rare to see white on white with her interiors but she still manages to create drama even with white.

Look at this amazing staircase! I would love to have an entry like that.

Love the modern combination of periwinkle blue and orange in this bedroom.

Orange is next after yellow as a favourite colour, it’s such a happy colour like yellow! This room is from a yacht she decorated. I like the fitted, quilted coverlet. It’s a great idea for a more tailored look.

Here’s the living room. She managed to replace red with orange and still keep the look nautical with the white and navy blue.

She recently re-decorated her ‘guesthouse’ in her backyard! She calls this look Bravura Modernism.

This room is way over-the-top for me. It’s great drama for a magazine but I don’t know how anyone could live in a space like this.
