Kim and Colin had already completed a lovely kitchen renovation, but the tile stopping the flow between their kitchen, hallway, and living spaces still bothered them. Like so many homeowners, they assumed the next step was a bigger renovation—removing the tile and replacing the flooring throughout the main level.

But that kind of update would have easily climbed into the $15,000–$20,000 range.

Instead, we focused on what was already there and transformed their living and dining room in one day with decorating—reworking the layout, layering in colour, and making a few key styling decisions that completely changed how the space feels.

Great job Maria, looks great! But I have a question: why didn’t you add a rug in the hallway or add art to the hallway to continue connecting the colors together?
Yes! That’s exactly where I would go next 😊
These are one-day makeovers, so the living and dining room were the priority for the biggest impact first.
In part two next week, I’m showing the colour I would choose for the adjoining spaces and I’ll also show the additional tweaks I would make so everyone can see how I’d complete the flow.
Loved the small, perfect changes. I’m getting ready to renovate/decorate so it was truly helpful.
