As promised, here are the photos from the guest house with a pool that my clients built beside their home
on Promontory Hill. They don’t have to drive when they go away for the weekend!
Here she is looking so pretty in her navy dress on photo shoot day!
The main house is on the left side (not shown).
Loungers ready for guests!
Here is a glimpse of their spectacular and uninterrupted view of trees and mountains! I took this picture (above) when they had their white party a few weeks ago, here’s Elizabeth and I in our white dresses on Instagram.
Dining set and area rug from The Pottery Barn.
Love the beach glass votives we found from West Elm. We found some glass vases, with a little sand, seashells and a candle, we have an instant tablescape.
Here’s their outdoor kitchen, great for serving drinks and flipping veggie burgers (haha, only for me if I was over for dinner ; ) ; )
A tray makes everything look good!
The walls are BM Muslin. Fabulous with blues and a great colour that looks like linen and feels like the sun is setting all the time.
We found the entry table and nautical mirrors from Joss & Main.
Living Before (I seemed to have lost all my before pics so my client was kind enough to send me a few that she had).
Notice that the television is wireless and wall-mounted. Even flat screens look lumpy if it’s sitting on the cabinet.
The mirror is from Pier 1. We debated painting it but decided it related well enough to the sisal area rug and coffee table from West Elm so we left it. The sofa is custom made.
Love the crystal coasters and beach glass inspired votives from West Elm.
The seabirds are from Chintz & Co.
And of course a timeless white-on-white kitchen. We debated taking the subway tile only underneath the first shelf but usually more tile is better than less in these situations, so I love that it goes all the way up the wall in the end.
The seagrass counter stools are from the Pottery Barn. Cabinets are BM Simply White, countertops, Organic White from Caesarstone.
Before Guest Room
The ceiling fan came from Horchow! Not easy to find one without lights that hit you in the eyes! Walls are BM Palladian Blue.
The trick to coordinating bedding is to just buy the pattern in the duvet and match the pillow shams in solid colours.

The B.M. Muslin does indeed set the blues off nicely. I love the frosted sea glass.
Love, love, love, love, love this!!!!
She must be thrilled!
I am so thrilled, it is just a dream come true! Maria has such talent! I had so much fun working with and getting to know Maria.
Oh so beautiful!
You did not mention the colour in the bathroom and bedroom….love it!
I would love to know the wall color(s) for the bath and bedrooms! Please and thank you!
My favorite! I want to live in that small space.
Beautiful, so relaxed but chic.
Loved your and Elizabeth’s picture of the white dresses too, 😉

Did not know u could combine turqoise and navy? So pretty! Yes, please tell us the bedroom and bathroom paint color.
What is the color of the white kitchen cabinets?
Forgive me for not understanding, but are all the walls BM muslin – meaning on the vaulted ceiling, foyer walls, living room and above kitchen cabinets? All these areas are photographing differently and reflecting differently on my computer so I thought that I had better be sure since I am considering using this color with either BM Cloud White or Farrow and Wimborne White. I remember reading in your Color book that BM muslin is a “neutral” beige color. Is that right? As always, you did a lovely job Maria.
This is really beautiful. I especially like that Horchow ceiling fan and the white kitchen.

The Cabinets are OC-117 Simply White and the countertops are Ceasarstone Organic White. Maria
What beautiful guest house! I would be happy living there.
It’s nice to see the example of BM Muslin. That was the color you suggested to me when I didn’t like the way my living room drapes clashed with the current wall color.
BTW… Your white dresses are super cute.
This house is gorgeous !!! I LOVE the cobalt couch where is it from? Also love the color of the bedroom/bathroom what is it? You and your sister look absolutely beautiful in your white dresses. Get that picture framed for sure! 🙂
What a lovely place. The colors are wonderful. Can you tell me where the dull length kitchen drapes came from?
what are the colours in the bathroom and guest room?
Oops, OMG I can’t believe I forgot to include them, BM Palladian Blue!
Love it! I am also interested in the wall color in the bedroom and the bath.
Beautiful; still working on ours. Doing the kitchen right now! Would also like to know color of the bath and bedroom. Thanks:).
Great images Maria! Love the beach-y feel.
Looks like the bedroom and bathroom are similar to SW Festoon Aqua. Would love to know what the colour is in the bedroom and bathroom.
Maria, where was the duvet purchased?
I wondered too, and clicked on the link, which took me to Pottery Barn- Cassidy Medallion Duvet (I think some of the cushions in other rooms came from there too, have been shopping there lately and recognize them). The color looks lighter in Maria’s photo.
Maria, What a great job you have done!! Everything would fit in our California coastal homes. Love it and you and your sister are just beautiful!!
Did’t know you could use aqua and navy together
The house is beautiful…light and bright…..
It is a beautiful pic of you and your sister…
Funny, I just returned from visiting a friend at her new beach house on the Maine coast, and all the walls are
BM Muslin. It is a perfect color for casual living.
And have a great holiday, Maria!
The idea of a guest house beside the house reminds me of Barbra Striesand who built this incredible house on a lot right beside the house she lives in (CA) and didn’t move in – they visit there!!! It is like a guest house. Her book “Passion for Design” shows all the process and finished product and it is fabulous as is this Summer house. It’s a great idea – the world visits the West Coast – so have a guest house you can retreat to that isn’t cluttered with your everyday living and you have instant holiday! Love it all!
I think you and I would get along great as these are pretty much my house colours! Even though I work as a BM consultant (Vancouver island) I have seriously sweated over my own colours… I didn’t do Muslin as I prefer a slightly greyer tone but plumped for balboa mist (OC-27) but my master is Palladian (love it!) and all my whites are White Dove because I like the softness…accented with other beachy colours and a splash of coral. For my exterior (which drove me to distraction) I have eventually gone for Powell Grey (CW-665) which looks remarkably like the exterior colour there…?? Anyway feeling pretty good about my choices now I’ve seen this, thanks! : )
I really love being able to vicariously enjoy your process Maria! You really do a beautiful job! I love the summer house! Your clients are lucky to have you!
Simple and beautiful, ever lasting elegance.
The big signature of the talented Maria.
Beautiful, gorgeous, stunning! Brilliantly done again Maria. Thanks for sharing. You are the best!
Are the subway tiles in the bathroom cream?
This is lovely! I’m curious about the window treatments in the kitchen and guest bedroom. I like that they add a pop of color without being too heavy and look much better than just a stark window frame. Are they custom made? Do you scootch them up higher to make the windows appear taller? Your thoughts on this type of window treatment would be greatly appreciated!
It’s a valance called a mock roman shade. A cheaper way to get the feel of a roman shade without the price tag!
Hey, that’s MY color scheme!
My place is still torn up because of the plumbing issue, plus my sister’s in the hospital, so at least I have this serene looking space to look forward to when this medical crisis is over. The drywall repaid was supposed to be tomorrow, but now who knows….
Nice work for all involved.
Oops, repair, not repaid, lol! running to the hospital can do that to you!
All that eye candy left me giddy! Loved all your choices, Maria, especially how the Palladian Blue paint evokes the pool water. The chandelier in the outdoor kitchen is also a showstopper. Stunning job.
Oh, that is a sweet place. How they must love it.
I’m so curious…with a Summer House can they still use it through the winter? Does it have heating? Would not the pipes freeze otherwise?
We call it a summer house because it’s not by the lake or beach but it’s a solid house 🙂 Maria
What a fantastic setup. We are able to enjoy our heated pool a couple months a year only. I’m sure they will find other fun and fabulous ways to extend the house for other purposes. A little accessory change and you are ready for Christmas guests!
Nice job (as if we expect less!)
Maria… the house just looks so wonderfully welcoming and casual…perfect for the beach…love the navy and turquoise…
also the flooring is gorgeous, were you involved in picking the color and if so, could you let us know the brand and color?
I want to move in! What a stunning home….all of the color, fabric and décor choices are so pretty. Thanks for sharing and great job Maria!!
That place is delightful! I love that it feels “beachy”, but not so in your face. And that view… Wow! I would never leave.
Beautiful, Maria! Love the Muslin and Palladian Blue walls and the many lovely accents throughout. I can see your touch in everything!
Another winner,Maria-I love that you didn’t go overboard on the beachy vibe-this is where your great talent shows-just the right amount of accents-my friends lake house has nautical knickknacks everywhere-even the light switches are lighthouses-at first, when you see it,it looks great, but then, after awhile, when you see every square inch cluttered with useless sailboats, birds, shells, you want to start drinking lots of wine.haha, its a good excuse, anyways.
I loved seeing all the Palladian Blue…I am not a blue person, BUT I did our bedroom in our old house, finally, in this wonderful blue and just loved it. So when we moved I did the guest room in it, with lots of reds, and the room has great sun all day. Anyway, it really is a wonderful color, and so versatile!
Love, love, love.
The color scheme isn’t quite navy and turquoise…it’s really a bright indigo with a bright greeny turquoise. Both have a similar value and are both clean colors which is why it works. If the blue was a dark navy it wouldn’t work as well IMHO. Darker navy’s look better with lighter blues, whites, ivories, camel or red
What a gorgeous home! Love it –
Love the coastal touches – perfectly done without feeling beachy. Discovered on pinterest while looking for ideas to collect for our Obsessed with Indigo board
oops! too many letters in our website address – sorry about that.
I would also like to know the floor color. I’m getting ready to build a house and that’s the floor color that I would like to use.
Is simply white a go to white with most vinyl windows?
