Celebrating Moms in May

By 05/13/2012February 20th, 201720 Comments

As I’ve mentioned, one of the biggest reasons I’m moving to the Country is because my Mom will live 2 minutes away from me. A one hour drive is the most I’ve ever lived from my favourite Mom in the world and I will do anything for her, always. So when she said she’d like to re-use the railings I was removing from my new living room of course I drove them right over to her house as soon as I could.

My new house (before) the after is happening right now

My sister Elizabeth (my Mom owns half the property they live on in a carriage house on 1 1/2 acres) gave me the hairy eyeball when I asked Mom if she wanted the white medicine cabinets for the sauna that I had taken out of the bathrooms as well. Haha, she does not want to encourage our moms recycling collection.

Anyway, I thought you might like to see where she put one of them. She has a large greenhouse in the backyard and she needed a gate for when the screen door is open in the summer and the resident goat, George needs to be kept out.

I never knew goats were kinda like dogs. He totally hangs out with her when she’s working in the garden/greenhouse and makes lots of noise when she leaves him at the end of the day

And here’s one of the other reasons I’m moving. My nephews are the closest I’ll ever get to having kids and I want to be around them!

Did your Mom ever make you a happy dandelion crown? She always made them for us growing up.

Thanks Mom for your unconditional love and support! I always feel lucky to have such a young Mom because then you’ll be here hopefully forever!!

Being a Mom is the best and most important job in the world and I honour all of you today on your very special day! xoxo Maria

  • That’s sweet, Maria. Happy Auntie’s Day to you!!

  • It is so nice that you want to live close to your Mum. My Mum is 1000 miles away. I think it’s great to recycle building materials!

You’re so lucky to live by your Mom and I’m pretty sure she feels very lucky as well! My mom lives in Florida and I’m in North Carolina. We talk on the phone everyday but I’d like to see her face, smell her perfume and just hold her hand. Celebrate your Mom today Maria! xo

A delightful post! I laughed out loud when I saw how the rails were being used. Your Mother takes Repurpose, Reuse and Recycle seriously! She must be a wonderful mother to have raised a daughter like you.
    Best!

  • Such a sweet post. I love the goat-dog and the dandelion crown (he’s definitely the king of weeds). I can see why you are moving.

  • teresa says:

Thankyou Maria for sharing some of the best times you will ever have. You’ve made the right move. By the way, I want a goat like your Mums. My neighbour’s goat visits and eats all my plants 🙁

  • Cathy says:

I love to hear when a daughter loves her Mom so much. My daughter and I are close and I love it as it has not always been an easy job. Just wish she lived closer…. then I could see my 3 fantastic grandchildren more often. What a wonderful joy it is to be a Mema (Grandmother) our grandson started calling me that and well it has stuck.
It is so easy to hear your excitement in your writing about the move. Congrat’s to the new home. I am looking forward to seeing your new home.

How sweet!! I love it that you actually want to live so close to your mama. I’m 20 mins away from my mom and often wish it were 2 mins. Love the recycled railings to keep George out! Keep sharing!

  • Roberta says:

Ha, sweet post Maria! Looks like everyone is happy to have you close by now. Keeping it real with the goat AND dandelion crown on the little guy:) Good for Mom thinking of such a creative use for the railing. My Mom is 89 and I’m so blessed to have her close by. However…my three kids are all over the country so Mother’s Day is a little bittersweet for me. xo Roberta

Aw, such a sweet post for Mom’s day! Now that I’m a mom I barely give my mom the appreciation she deserves. The distance (saskatoon to calgary) definitely makes it the main problem. I want a goat now!! Your family is so progressive! It seems like paradise over there (which is why all us saskies seem to retire there I guess!).

  • Fran Worrall says:

Special aunts are important, too, Maria. Your nephews are lucky to have you so close.

  • Andrea May says:

    So wonderfully sweet, Maria! xo

How Creative and wonderful! I can see where you get your talent from…..your MOM!!!!!! XOXOXO

  • Karen says:

I adored this post Maria. I would love to see my mom as I adore her also but she passed away, so I say cherish that time. My kids adore and cherish their time with their special aunt too. Loved what your mom did with the railing its so sweet and George and your nephew are pretty adorable.
Sounds like things are coming together and will be making wonderful memories there.

  • Janet says:

    Maria,

Thank you for sharing your stories, especially the transformation of your new house into a home.

It’s very heartwarming to see that you’ve figured out what really matters in life. God bless you and your family!

  • Janet says:

How do you make a dandelion crown? Would love to have the directions. Mine never stay together.

  • GaBi says:

    Dear Maria,
I do read your blogs most of the time, but this blog is the most beautiful and very special not just because of your Mom, but your sense and close relationship to your family. It is very precious especially now, when everyone is brain – washed with the “Must have” materialism. To recycle is the way how Europiens now in big time, Japanese are coming back to cherish and value not just a material, but also work what was put into it.
Picture of your nephew is just a reflection of the talent and environment you grew up. Enjoy every minute of your family it is worth it.

  • StagerLinda says:

A very touching post, Maria. So great to have your family close by. Your nephew is so cute! His expressions crack me up!

  • Paula Van Hoogen says:

We used to make Daisy Necklaces :~)
This is a delightful HONORING tribute to your mom, Maria. I’ll bet she’s so proud of you! I would be, if you were my daughter.
    xo, Paula.
