Terreeia has wanted a greenhouse for years! She is a gourmet cook and can add flavour to even the blandest of food.
But our backyard in our last home was just too small we would have had to remove a storage shed (below) in order to install one and we wanted to move so we kept postponing the greenhouse idea.
And then we found our dream house (below)! Which meant we would have plenty of room for the greenhouse she always wanted.
We installed this garden along with the gate and columns last year
The greenhouse of our dreams
This is the spectacular greenhouse we installed last Summer with BC Greenhouses!
Because their facility was only a half hour drive from where I live, I had no idea that they have been shipping greenhouses worldwide since 1951. They also ship extensively throughout North America. They’ve even shipped greenhouses to countries like Australia, Iceland, Sweden, and Chile.
Their greenhouses are designed to withstand high wind and snow loads, making them suitable for various climates. And the best part is they are totally customizable. The foundation supports can be 4 ft high, for example if you have a lot of snow. And you can change the door location and side wall height ensuring the greenhouse perfectly fits your space and environment.
Funny story, because we had our hearts set on a high-end greenhouse, no other option seemed to measure up. It wasn’t until we took a closer look that we realized all roads—and quotes—kept leading us back to the same company. To our surprise, the crème de la crème of greenhouses was practically in our own backyard.
The installation was seamless
Even more convenient, Mike Brouwer, the local representative, lives right in my neighbourhood. He didn’t have to travel far to sit down with us and walk through all the options, making the process seamless and personal.
Mike and his crew installed the greenhouse in June, perfectly timed to complete the garden and kickstart the summer growing season.
The installation was seamless, with careful attention paid to site preparation and ventilation systems to prevent overheating during the hotter months. The greenhouse windows are equipped with an automatic system that allows them to open and close on their own, ensuring optimal ventilation without any manual effort (as shown below).
The garden before and after
Here’s what the vegetable garden/greenhouse area looked like before we moved in:
We chose the Cottage style with the decorative trim on the roof because we installed it in the same orientation as the barn because it would relate and our property is narrow. And since it’s situated right past our pool, the side view becomes the focal point.
I also chose white because it would relate to the white trim on the red barn. The red barn is staying because Terreeia likes it and I get to do almost anything else I want.
The perfect setting
It’s really perfect with the 3 ft x 12 ft custom raised garden beds on each side with my boxwood garden in front. MaryAnne White designed my entire garden and it fills me with joy every time I see it!
We are now planning the inside, and these are the shelves I’m considering:
And we’re talking about a terra cotta brick herringbone floor, something like this:
Let me know in the comments what you would grow!

Maria, your home and garden are beautiful! I like the idea of a terracotta brick floor in the greenhouse to inject some color. Your landscaping design has really transformed your home. I am very happy for you and your wife Terreeia! It’s obvious the joy you derive from your lovely home.
Hi, Maria…I love basil, and it smells so good. Can you grow kiwi, in your area, that seems like it would be neat to grow. It might even be on a vine, which would be another plus. Well, happy spring, and enjoy your beautiful greenhouse. Love the herringbone brick floor idea!!! Love ya, Candy❤️
Beautiful greenhouse and gardens!
The herringbone terracotta flooring would look fantastic. I presume you are consulting with your greenhouse supplier regarding flooring options that work best in your area as I suppose different materials generate varying levels of heat etc.
The Nashville Antique & Garden show earlier this year featured a beautiful conservatory and lovely plantings inside including loads of blooming bulbs nestled in moss. This would be a nice thing to have in your greenhouse early in the season.
An attractive rain barrel was also incorporated into the design. It wasn’t barrel at all but constructed from the same material as the conservatory structure. Thought this was a smart eco-friendly addition.
What to plant? What NOT to plant! Happy gardening.
Wow. Your yard is beautiful. Your landscaper really knows what they are doing. Love the plantings around the fence. And I also adore the red barn and glad you are keeping it.
Your garden & greenhouse are a dream! I’ve read your blog since the beginning and it’s been so fun to watch through different trends, I’ve learned so much. What to plant? Plant what you like to eat! There’s an app called Rhubarb, it can help you decide what to plant and when based on where you are and the conditions you have. Then you can track what you’re growing and it will learn from what you do and get better each season. It’s really great and I would love to know what you (or Terraria) think!
What a dream, Maria! Your entire landscape is so wonderful.
Mary Ann White is brilliant.
I would plant every herb! Fragrant plants/foods (lavender, raspberries, etc. )
Enjoy the terra-cotta herringbone brick floor. Perfect!
Enjoy!!
We lag a couple months behind here in South Dakota – it’s snowing today! I’d love to know more about your raised beds. Did you have them custom built? From a kit?
Maria, I was so happy see your newsletter this morning, about your greenhouse. We are building a sunroom addition, and I have been researching greenhouse companies. I had found and am in contact with BC Greenhouse! We are looking at smaller greenhouses 8×10 or 9×10, in black.. Thank you for your inspiration!!!
Maria, Where to order a concrete large vertical statute like you have? Susan
Hi Maria… I just place my order this week for a greenhouse from BC Greenhouse. I am located in Ontario and looked at a few other greenhouse options but the BC Greenhouses were clearly better and had a more solid construction so we went with it. I am beyond excited and can’t wait to start growing all my vegetables in the greenhouse.
I would love to read an update post once you research and decide on flooring! I’m in a four season climate, growing zone 4, and hearing what the experts recommend for a greenhouse floor where you are is of interest to me.
Will the bricks need to be ungrouted for water runoff? The porous, unglazed nature of brick will absorb and release water, helping control humidity, but are there other unglazed tiles (terra cotta, porcelain, etc) that are best suited to a greenhouse? In one of your inspiration pictures it looks like there’s a center trough floor drain- what will your floor slope be like? Summer and winter effects on greenhouse temp with flooring? I can’t wait to hear what you discover!
Love this. I wish I had the space for a greenhouse. I’d grow lots of vegetables year-round. So happy for you and Terreeia!
Your yard and home are beautiful. I have a small greenhouse and it gets too warm in the summer for much of anything, but I would suggest citrus trees for your greenhouse. The smell alone would be fabulous. Myers Lemon? Lime? kumquats, blood orange? Endless possibilities! I mainly use my greenhouse to overwinter tender perennials like geraniums (pelargoniums), salvia, begonia, and for starting seeds for the vegetable garden and flowers. Zone 8b in PNW.
STUNNING!!! If I ever get a greenhouse, now I know where to find the right one.
