I’m featured on Tobi Fairly’s blog today with my expert advice, more on that in a minute!
This is my sweet nephew Noah and it’s his birthday, he’s seven!
My sister Anita (his Mom) has a stunning brand new white kitchen that I helped her with last summer. The reason why you haven’t seen it on my blog is because the hood fan was installed crooked and it has not been at the top of her list to fix (I think she’s forgotten about it) so that image remains unposted for the time being.
This is the hoodie I got him. I coordinated it with the countertop so the photos would look good (kidding).
He liked that it was fleecy and fuzzy inside and immediately put it on.
Today was a “Yes” day for Noah. That’s what he wanted for his Birthday from his parents. They had to say yes to everything, including having a chocolate shake BEFORE dinner.
His favourite show is Sponge Bob! Every year they celebrate at Red Robin where all the wait staff come to the table to sing a birthday song as he stands on his chair (it’s his favourite part).

Is it my imagination or do you and Noah look a like. I enjoy your love of your nephews as much as I enjoy your expert advice, Maria. A lot of bloggers start out talking design and decor and then they get pregnant and it turns into a mummy blog. You are keeping it fresh-it’s a nephew blog.
I love it. They are obviously lovable and much loved. I am happy that you have found your happy place.
What a happy boy! If Noah smiled in bigger his face would crack! Precious. Hey…. I want a “Yes Day”!!!
Your nephew looks like such a great kid! Love the Spongebob cake. That’s a popular show around my house as well, it’s my 8 year old daughter’s favorite. 🙂 Glad you got to spend his birthday with him!
So happy for your family that you can just “drop by” to enjoy all these great moments. In a complete change of subject…I’m looking for help with stairs. We have a newly re-built staircase where we planned to stain the oak steps but the risers & runners are poplar which we’ve been told will stain differently than the oak so we thought paint. Is there a “rule” for painting stairs – trim or wall color on which parts of the stairs?
@Debbie: As I am facing a similar dilemma I plan to apply a staircase runner and ‘faux paint’ just the margins of the ‘treads’ and apply a sealer to match up with my proposed hardwood flooring. (I have two wide staircases to contend with.) Most improvement centers carry graining tools and choice of paint colours are abundant. (Don’t use a stain and do NOT prime first. The first coat of paint should just be a wash.) Also I would highly recommend that you use a sealer that is compatable to the ”finish’ of your hardwood flooring. ie: Satin or a Gloss
I used the above method when doing my daughter’s first home (she didn’t have a runner) and it even tricked the trained eye plus it was much more economical than replacing an entire staircase.
If wanting to paint out the ‘riser’ and the ‘stringerS’, there are abundant examples on the internet which may appeal to you. ie: Houzz.com Choose what you like and go from there. Hope this helps. -Brenda-
What a doll! He looks so much like you Maria. Yes to the YES DAY! HB Noah!
I’m glad you decorate your life with Noah!!!

What a handsome little boy! He will definitely have the girls flocking around him when he hits teens. 🙂 -Brenda-
