Don’t just take my word for it…

Here’s what some of my students were saying in my course this week:

“I’m most excited about learning how to make what I already have work.” ~Ruth S.

“Now I know how to stand up for what I want, not for what contractors want!!” ~Karen M.

“I love the hint that if a finish looks ‘exciting’ it is time to reconsider that choice.” ~Renee Q.

“Lollll this week my contractor was trying to talk me into dry-stacked limestone instead of a millwork fireplace surround…. I now have confidence to charmingly argue!” ~Julie

“Really enjoying studying the colors in the photos as part of this training.” ~Laura S.

My best advice for your renovation project

Are you renovating? There are sooooo many decisions to be made and it’s absolutely CRITICAL to know what needs to be considered first.

That’s why I’ve created this step-by-step video guide to help you navigate the process with confidence and clarity!

In this video, I’ll walk you through the 10 critical decisions you need to make for a timeless renovation – everything from coordinating your hard finishes with your home’s style (this is non-negotiable, my friends!) to choosing the right flooring, creating harmony between your kitchen and fireplace, and avoiding that dreaded “yesterday and today” look that happens when old and new elements clash.

Remember, when you’re renovating, it’s not just about what you love anymore – it’s about what will look good with what you’ve already chosen AND what works with your home’s existing style. This is exactly why I created my eDesign renovation packages – to help you create a timeless, well-coordinated design plan with all the right colours!

So grab a cup of tea, click play, and let me help you create a home that truly speaks your language and wraps you in joy every time you walk through the door!

This video made me think of something I tell my kids: when you’re doing something dangerous, don’t also do something stupid. Driving is dangerous, so don’t use your phone, turn to see what’s going on in the back seat, get into a deep conversation, or unbuckle! Those are stupid choices.
Likewise, designing your dream home is risky: you’re not going to get everything perfect, you’re spending a lot of money… so don’t wing it, do it all on your own, remain uneducated, or shop without a plan. Those would be stupid choices!
    Another great video!

I wonder about choosing appliances for a traditional – 1950s home. Stainless steel appliances seem too modern for an older home. White appliances seems a better fit.

Hi Maria- about timeless flooring- is there a certain width to the wood planks that you believe is timeless? Or certain widths you would consider trendy?

This was so helpful! Especially when you said it’s not just about what you love anymore – it’s about what will look good with your home’s existing style! I am working on updating my kitchen cabinets and it is so hard to narrow it down.
