Step into my home as I take you behind the scenes of a day filled with creativity, style, and more than a few outfit changes. The camera was rolling to capture every moment of my recent photoshoot, providing an exclusive peek into a very not-so-ordinary day in the life of a colour expert.
Believe me, this is not something I like to do on the regular… photoshoots are EXHAUSTING!
My sister even had some fun making comparisons to one of my favourite movies, The Devil Wears Prada. Because if you can’t laugh at yourself, life just isn’t as joyful! 😄 Head to the bottom of the post to watch!
But first, I thought I’d share a few photos we captured that day. I just love my front door colour!

Colour expert tools
Of course, my first photoshoot outfit was inspired by my favorite chairs from Ballard Designs. There’s no such thing as too much leopard.
My marketing team is always asking for “professional” images of me using the colour wheel and my large paint samples (colour boards).
Just a reminder, the price of all my large paint samples is going up mid-March. We haven’t had a price increase since 2020 and all our costs have gone up.
When you know the right neutral, everything changes for the better. Shop my neutral colour wheel here.
This one probably doesn’t need much explanation if you’ve been following me for any length of time. haha
Behind the scenes: A day in the life…
But what truly set this day apart was the behind-the-scenes video we captured. Ok, are you ready to watch the highlight reel from my photoshoot? Trust me, it’s a fun one!
Large Paint Samples
Get a set (or more) of my large paint samples (colour boards) before the price increases!
Which large paint samples should I start with?
If you don’t have any sets – start with a set of Neutrals & Whites from either Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams. Simply choose the paint company your painter prefers or nearest your location.
This set includes a variety of neutrals in ALL 9 undertones and 4 gradations of white, all labeled so you don’t have to guess!
Save when you buy more than one set of large paint samples (colour boards)
If you are planning to paint bedrooms, bathrooms, vanities or cabinets a colour, you’ll want a set of additional neutrals, colours and dark versions of well-established paint choices.
Again you can choose your favourite paint brand, either Benjamin Moore Colour Collection or Sherwin-Williams Colour Collection.
This approach allows you to streamline the overwhelming array of colours in a fan deck to a more manageable and reliable set of 50 tried-and-true options.
PS. Stay tuned for a closer look at my dining room. I was finally able to style it and capture some beautiful images to share with you here.
And, one final pic of my sister Anita and I! 💙 She also produces my Colour Rescue makeover series on YouTube, if you live in the lower mainland, you can apply here.

Something I’ve wondered: is Canadian grammar different from USA. ?
USA i.e. “my sister and I are going” “look at my sister and me
Of course Canadian grammar rules are the same. There is an error in the sentence you are referring to.
I love that last caramel-colored outfit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It looks elegant, flowy, and comfortable.
This was fun, Maria! Love seeing you with the Sistas!
That was a fun video! I know you love all colours, but certain colours sing on you like the pastel tones. You looked stunning in that lavender outfit on the couch with Lucy (who is the perfect little accessory with EVERY outfit!)
Hi Maria, What a fun video! It made me miss my sisters, and my little poodle who was my best buddy for over 16 years. It is so heartwarming to see Lucy. You are so very blessed!
Hello, please share your home’s ‘blue’ color name/brand paint used on the exterior entrance door and the exterior pool door. It is lovely!
