See this busy, patterned carpet which is all throughout the hallways and classrooms where I attended this workshop the last three days? Well, you can see that the rubber baseboard was selected to coordinate with the carpet (they did the best they could–the standard colours are limited). However, the wall colour should then be a second…
So I’m in a workshop for facilitators here in Vegas. The difference between training which is what I mostly do in my True Colour Expert Workshops and facilitating is this:
1. Training. I need to get my participants from A – B and I have the answers (it is MY system after all).
2. Facilitating. The facilitator stands inside the gap between A – B and you bring activities and resources to lead your participants to B and you don’t even pretend to have the answers.
There’s parts of my course when I’m facilitating and other parts where it’s full on training.
The best money-saving advice I give my clients every single day is dedicated around the correct way to introduce finishes from today into your dated, 20-30 year old (or more) space.
For example, recently I consulted with a client who had plans to rip out everything in the bathroom except the one-piece shower/tub. She sent me some images in advance of our consultation of some combination sink/vanity units she planned to purchase to replace her existing vanity.
Will I See You in 2012?
01/21/2012Next week I’m in Vegas for 3 days, Jan 24 – 26 participating in an effective facilitators workshop.
Then February 3 & 4 I’m in Seattle for Blogshop. I’m going to learn Photoshop so get ready, the images on my blog will start looking more interesting and then I’ll also have the ability to erase all the wrinkles on my face, hehe.
Recently a client asked if the chaise lounge chairs we were considering for her den could be designed so that they matched her living room furniture in the event she were to move. Another couple is redecorating their living room but they want to make sure that the furniture they select now will potentially fit into a condo when they downsize.
What about if you rent? That’s when a lot of people are even more inclined to wait until own before they purchase ‘custom’ furniture specifically for the rental they live in.
I am getting lots of questions about lighting and how it affects paint colour. I’m including this one to start off this post because it’s even more complicated than the usual one I receive (and it’s a great question, thanks!) source “Maria, do you know of a seminar that would delve into the more technical…
As I mentioned in my Apartment Therapy interview on Friday, when I started my design business, it was one call by a potential client that started me on my journey to get colour right. She said, “I’m trying to pick colours for my house and I see all these undertones but I can’t figure out…
Interview with Apartment Therapy
01/13/2012Eleanor Busing, a writer for Apartment Therapy contacted me this week asking if I’d like to be interviewed for the site! She bought my eBook right when it launched and loved it! She asked some great question, pop on over to check it out! And, if you are here from Apartment Therapy click here to…
This morning as I was re-loading my car with samples from a consultation I realized that a blog post outlining what every colour consultant should have in their car would be very helpful. So here is my list: 1. Measuring Tape source It’s rare that I conduct a consultation without pulling it out at least…
Have you ever made a design choice you regret? What about when choosing new tile? Here’s my advice on when you should rip out brand new tile and when it’s okay to let it be. When should you rip out brand new tile? A while ago I had a consultation where my client had made…
This is the 4th year I have publicly listed my goals on my blog and it’s really interesting to look back and see how the year went every time I write this post. So here is the review from last year, lets see how I did:
1. The top of my list this year is a complete revamp of my blog and website. I’m switching to WordPress so that my blog, website, twitter and facebook fan page are all together in one place. I had to find a big checkmark for this goal because it most certainly happened and let me tell you, it was a lot of work! And you are looking at my new site right now, here was the header from the old one:
All my friends and family know better than to buy me ‘what nots’ or ‘tchotchkes’ as a gift. They know it will pretty much not see the light of day in my house. And there are times when I have kept the occasional knickknack out on display for fear of hurting someone’s feelings. For example, I had these little wooden elephant bookends that my mom gave me on my bookshelf for years until my friend Tami said that they were bad luck because their trunks pointed down instead of up. So then I gave myself permission to stick them into the Sally Ann box.
Guests Posts for Colour Me Happy in 2012
01/03/2012Thanks everyone for your comments on yesterday’s post! I’ve been thinking a lot about the ‘likeable’ part of that discussion and I agree with you that ‘nice’ doesn’t necessarily get you everywhere so that’s not it. It’s about being more ‘gracious’ everywhere I go. My ‘Year of Grace’. I like it. This year I really want to expand my blog to include a lot more guest posting. And here is what I’m looking for. People already use Colour me Happy as a resource to make colour decisions on everything from sofas to cabinet hardware to countertops, etc. so I’m looking for you, the expert in your niche to educate my readers even further.
Before I can even begin to talk about goals and accomplishments for 2012 there’s something (okay 2 things) I need to say first. It’s something I seriously need to work on and here it is. I am mostly always anxious. Some people would say it’s because of my astrological sign. I am a Gemini and am always in my head analyzing everything. And I would say that is true. But whatever it is, it drives me crazy. I’m always worried that I’m not working hard enough, fast enough, and smart enough to make my business grow faster and the worst part is I compare myself to other people (anyone else do this?).
Happy New Year from Big White
12/31/2011Okay, we’re here and it’s the first time I have been on skis for over 10 years – eeeek! This photo is taken from our Apres Ski spot where we had the most awesome veggie falafels and salad for a snack at the end of the day. I was scared today when I got on…
