Grey is suddenly everywhere. It is quickly replacing and/or accompanying brown in wall colour, furniture and hard surfaces. I was recently in a brand new, luxury home where all the finishes had been done in varying combinations of browns and greys. It was beautiful and contemporary, yet warm and cozy.

  2. pve design says:

I love that image, it has a "minky" look, sort of a rich brown gray. Chic!

  3. Completely Coastal says:

A couple of days ago I posted a nautical guest bedroom makeover where the owner went from baby blue to grey. Grey seems to add sophistication to a room.

  4. Splendid Sass says:

I love this image. I love neutral tines, and this color scheme is beautiful.
    Thank you for sharing.

  5. Design Elements says:

    Maria,

I love grey & silver color schemes. I know, you like it, too. I can remember your post "What everyone should know about gray" – it's one of my favorite post of yours.

  6. Marcus Design says:

Maria I LOVE greys!! My entire house is painted in different shades of grey. I particularly love warm greys, the ones I have chosen have brown or purple undertones and I love them.

  7. I agree with Completely Costal — gray seems so sophisticated, doesn't it? I'm changing my mind about how warm it can be — once you start exploring it, you see how many ways you can mix it up so that you aren't left cold.

  8. Kim@Chattafabulous says:

Planning to dip my toes into the gray pool soon. So excited. I tend to lean more to the warmer side of gray, if that makes sense.

  9. Susan says:

I'm glad you posted on grey… I love it as the new neutral.
    cheers

  10. paisley penguin says:

I just painted my dining room grey and love it so much my living room and hallway are getting the same color. LOVE IT!

  11. Scribbler says:

I used to hate gray. Then I painted my master bath a shade called Smoke. I love it. But somehow I cannot get brave enough to do it anywhere else. I keep thinking I might get really tired of it.

  12. Grace @ Sense and Simplicity says:

I've always loved gray so I find this a trend I can embrace. I got married in 1981 and EVERYTHING we got was brown – yuck! To this day I'm not a big brown-beige fan.

  13. DesignTies says:

I remember in one of your posts from a while back, you mentioned that a designer had said that grey & brown don't go together. No idea who that designer is, but he or she is so wrong — grey & brown look fab together!! 🙂

  14. Design Elements says:

fabulous room & red chair. Have a great weekend!

  15. Emom says:

    Love Grey! smiles….

  16. Ideezine says:

    Maria,

Shades of gray are my favorite. From clothes, shoes, make-up (mascara), cars, furniture, room interiors, homes exteriors, home appliances, and accessories. Gray makes a difference in a room.

It's the go to color that takes a space from "how" into "wow" it's chic yet relaxed depending on how it's used in a space: monochromantic, complementary, or with black and white. It holds all colors so you can't go wrong. As a designer, in my experience there's a shade of gray to suit everyone.

  17. Pinky says:

Oh, I love that dark gray. I do have several chocolate walls, in fact 2 here in my "office/guest room". I have been trying to decide on a new color(s) for our basement. I am now thinking about GREYS!!! Thanks!!!! XO, Pinky

  18. mydesignchic says:

I'm such a fan of gray…so calm and soothing but also sophisticated – beautiful images!!

  19. Marcy {pine creek cottage} says:

I adore the photo that you chose! The mixture of white and the sheen of different textures keeps it fresh. I think it is a very sophisticated choice.

  20. Maggie says:

I’m wondering if you might suggest a color gray that would compliment the color BM HC 157 . Also I am wondering if this BM HC 157 would be too dark and gloomy ?
Thanks for any comments both neg or positive .
