I just bought the July 2009 House Beautiful because of the cover!  I loved the hot pink chairs and the way the table was styled with the pink beverages, cheese and pink roses.

The most fabulous part of this house designed by Jonathan Berger is the foyer in Razzle Dazzle by Benjamin Moore.

Here it is shown going all the way up the stairs too!  I love the way no attempt was made to coordinate the colour with the area rug on the second floor, but it certainly looks great with the zebra print runner and black painted steps!

I think a strong colour like this really works in an entry where you don’t spend a lot of time!  It’s a show stopper for guests but then you go into the living room where all is calm [below] and the only suggestion of flow from the entry is the hot pink toss cushions on the sofa.

I just love the unexpected combination of pink and orange together.  I have geraniums in the same colour all along the front of my house this summer!  Stunning!
Have you ever bought a magazine just because of the front cover?

Oh yes, I have bought many a magazine because of the front cover, although I must admit that I am often disappointed.
This home was definitely a feast for the eyes. I loved the entry shot. It really works for me.

  2. DesignTies says:

Woooo, love that hot pink!! It looks fab in the stairway with the black & white zebra print runner. And I love the combo of hot pink & bright orange 🙂

Yep, I've bought a magazine just for the cover — the issue of Elle DECOR with Monique Lhuillier's living room 🙂 It just might be my most favourite room ever!!

Millions of times!! And this one is heart-racingly wonderful! Good eye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Lisa says:

    Here is the deal…
I have figured out how to peek REALLY REALLY quick at the inside and then decide! My Taylor thinks this is the strangest thing. HAY!
    It works for me!
Ok Maria, i love the cover & chairs & the stairway…black bannister too! But the living room gave me a complete anxiety attack!
    Still love that color!

  5. Jennifer Ramos says:

  6. Rebecca Sherman says:

This will probably be House Beautiful's best-selling issue ever with all of us rushing out to buy now that Maria has it posted. I can't wait to get it. I love the Bohemian chic living room!

  7. Ivy Lane says:

This was by far one of my favorite issues to date! I thought the plaster-framed cork board in the kitchen resembling coral was genious! Now..If I can figure out how to duplicate it!! I have dark brown walls in my kitchen with white wood work/ trim… have been looking for just the right piece/item to hang on a large empty wall..that bulletin board would be the ticket..!!!

  8. The Changing Look of Friends says:

Oh yes, I think we are all guilty of buying a magazine just because of the cover. I do have subscriptions to the ones I can't live with out but for the ones that don't always fit my style, it would be something about the cover that would sell me. The hot pink French chairs would be the "something" that would get my attention.

  9. Renee Finberg says:

    i agree 100 %

this is a wild one too !

  10. VictoriaArt says:

Beautiful rooms, I have a subscribtion and look always so forward to the next issue of HB…
I'd love a hot pink somewhere in the house, well maybe!

  11. Brillante Home Decor says:

And you ask??? of course I bought magazines just for the cover, like everything else, when is well presented, appeal to you: a well staged house to buy, a dress in a window, a pile of perfect tomatoes in the market…it is not just appearance but a nice way to call for attention, like the chicken publicizing her own eggs "co co co coccodè" they say in Italian, not sure about the English version)

  12. High-Heeled Foot in the door says:

Oh I always by magazines or books just by seeing front cover. If it snags my attention I must have it!

  13. AB HOME INTERIORS says:

I love that little black sofa! And really who doesnt love pink? I love it so much my studio bathroom is pink!

  14. Awesome Sara says:

I'm seriosuly drooling all over my mac bc these pics are stunning!!!

  15. Renae says:

I have bought many a magazine because the cover drew me in. So many times though that was the best part of the entire copy. I do love these pinks…my DH would never go for it…but I can dream!
    Blessings…

  16. sofas says:

    Your house looks full pink!!

  17. Design Junkie says:

I really enjoyed that issue of House Beautiful (though they and I have completely different definitions of "small"–I don't think a home can be considered small if you are able to have a devoted jewelery room and a guest apartment over a three car garage), and I am very happy to see them promoting the use of vibrant colour. I especially loved the Miles Redd designed apartment with the beautiful deep blue and green lacquered walls. Beige can be beautiful, but not for me.

  18. Pat@Back Porch Musings says:

I found my way here, via Cote de Texas. What a lovely blog!

Yes, I have bought many magazines, because of the front cover.

  19. Lauren says:

love the pink!!!! so crazy & bold.

i just did something similar with an aqua in my own house (simply because i needed a change & already had the color for another room & havent decided on the "final colors" yet- nutty) and am not sure how i feel about it… it's open to the LR and sort of scary
    hahaha

  20. Haven and Home says:

This article made me want pink chairs ASAP!

  21. Nat says:

I bought UK H&G Sept 09 issue for the Aboriginal art painting on the front cover, let alone for the furniture! It is a painting called Rock Holes by Aboriginal artist Kiturah Nangala.
