A Tablescape with a Glowing Centerpiece

By 09/10/2009January 27th, 201737 Comments

I received the most stunning candles as a gift from Black & Light Co. so I decided to include them in a Tablescape Thursday post hosted by Between Naps on the Porch.  I chose the ones with polka dots because I love them, dots are happy 🙂

These are my new green placemats from Crate & Barrel, I just love them!! Next to yellow and orange I love green, especially in these shades!

I am showing a combination of white dishes (the most timeless colour for dishes in my opinion) the dinner plate are ones I bought to add to my china collection (from when I was married years ago) which is Strawberry & Vine Wedgewood.
It’s more traditional than I would chose today (that’s for sure) but because it’s white it’s still works for me!  The flatware I would love to replace, these are just so everyday!

These napkin rings I bought at the Pottery Barn!
The hurricane lantern (one of the best ways to display a candle) with this beautiful candle is all you need for a quick centerpiece!  See how it glows right to the bottom?  This is what makes their candles so special.
They come with all kinds of different patterns on them which is also really unique.  I love these leaves as well!  Candles make such great gifts because they create light and atmosphere and one size fits all!  My readers just need to post the code ZAP120 with your order to receive 10% off your order and free shipping!
Here is another angle from the dining room looking into the living room.  Don’t look too hard for colour on the walls (and the drapes are not mine either) as I rent but when I buy this house (because I love it so much), then it will have colour on the walls!  The hurricane lantern is Brian Gluckstein.
Hurricane Lanterns are such a great accessory, here’s a decorative tablescape with all 4 elements for a tablescape.  A  tray, book, candle and a coral instead of flowers, click here for my post on How to create a Tablescape.
Another room by David Jiminez with two hurricane lanterns.  Notice how regular candles are lit at the top though, and not all the way to the bottom?  This is why Black & Light Co. candles are so special!

Lovely tablescape. Serene and natural, and fun to see it from your own house.

Maria, I have Wedgwood white dishes from when I got married, too. Different patterns…I can't remember the names. But like you, since they're white I still like them. That was the idea. 🙂

  • Julianne says:

Beautiful as always. Would you tell me where you got that chaise? I need one, and a new sofa and am not sure where to look. Thanks!

Oh how I wish I had gotten white dishes when I was married. Mine were Lenox and had pink and blue flowers and will never see the light of day again. Love yours though !

  • Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions says:

I love the polka dots, Maria! Very fun! You're right about white plates ~ classic and timeless, and you can set just about any scheme table. New dishes are on my list of things to get when we move and I've been considering white {that list seems to be getting longer!}.

You are right–white dishes are timeless and everybody should own a set of some kind. Isn't is funny how our tastes change over the years? I love that chaise–have wanted one all my life–Guess it's my southern upbring–I want a "fainting couch" 🙂

Very pretty. Love the simple dishes. Lovely home.

  • Rebecca Sherman says:

Polka Dots are chic. I've seen some fine linen napkins with really large dots on them that would look great on your table. As for white plates, there's a reason why chefs only use them. Food looks best on a white background. Those wonderful Wedgwood ones you have are fabulous by the way. I love that look.

  • Greet says:

Yes the hurricane lanterns are a good decoration pieces when you have unexpectable visitors !
I have a lot of these lanterns in as outside my house! I love them to see at the outside by night! Beautiful!

I just love white dishware! The table is serene and inviting and the polka dot candle adds a fun and whimsical touch.

  • Rebecca says:

    Fun tablescape!

I like your strawberry vine dishes. I find it a good mix on your table. The candle is so fun.

One of these days I will do a tablescape or two. I use my white dishes daily – always classic and always in style. My Mom, two sisters, my daughter-in-law, and my daughter each have a different set of white dishes. Most are everyday but a couple are their formal sets. It must be a family thing! There is just so much you can do with them.

Villery & Boch have discontinued their Manoir pattern. A couple of my pieces have been broken so I am thinking it may be time to look at new dishes. After 15 years or so they still look good.

  • Jane says:

mood lighting has always been fascinating to me. the way it changes the atmosphere in a space, adding a soft, warm glow… So much better than exclusively using harsh overhead lights. Do manufacturers send you samples often? nice benefit to being a blogger!
