I was flipping through my issue of September Vogue when I came across this image I just loved!

”He smiled so big his eyes shut”  Sarah Jessica Parker

He was called the ‘King of Chic Events’ and a ‘visual genius’.  Robert Isabell passed away suddenly in July and so they honoured him with a page in Vogue.  He designed the wedding of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick and told the couple the night before the wedding “to write a letter to their children and seal it, and never open it, but make sure they get it when we are gone.  And we did”.

Inspired and Inspiring, who inspires you?

This is a timely question for me to answer. I find so much inspiration through the design blogs.
This morning I was on your blog to once again re-read your post on "white trim" to help guide me towards some paint decisions. Thank you for your generosity and inspiration.

  2. Linda at Lime in the Coconut! says:

He was amazing as a floral stylist and perfumer ( My fave candle in the whole world was rare amber of his!)

    In peace Mr. Isabell.

  3. Between you, me and the Fencepost says:

I loved that picture but I didn't read the article! I'm going back to my Vogue and reading it.

Seeing your regular posts and how good they always are inspires me to work harder on blogging.

  4. Karena says:

I find inspiration everywhere….fabric, photos, the design world!

  5. Ideezine says:

    Maria,

All creatives, arts, architecture, photography, fashion, interior design, make-up and color inspire me.

I honestly BELIEVE we inspire ourselves by feeding the passion of inspiration. We look for more visually, listen more intently, talk about our inspiration more and then pay-it-forward, as in a circle and inspire others.

Leaving soft petals of great stuff behind like Robert Isabell, to remember us by.

What a joyful image! My father wrote me a letter when I left for college…handed it to me just as I was stepping onto the plane. It is one thing that I have kept throughout the years and still cherish deeply.

  11. Hill Country House Girl says:

Thank you Maria. I read this article and loved it – especially the sweet part about his smile and his eyes closing. I don't think to post these things on my blog, and am so glad you do –
It is the kind of article you want to call a friend about – if we knew each other in "real life" I would call you right now to talk about it more!

  12. Unique Unique Design says:

What a wonderful idea for your children! Creative people inspire me, but, also, those individuals who are thoughtful and kind to those around them. I bet they never realize how they have affected someone's life. Oops, maybe this was supposed to be just in the design realm.
