I love decorating for Christmas, I think winter weather is so tolerable until December because of all the sparkly lights! This first photo is my dining room (without any art yet). What I love about the paint colour (BM Natural Linen) is that it really doesn’t change from day to evening (there are so many colours that really look bad in the evening). It’s the perfect backdrop to my sunflower yellow and raspberry colour scheme, I love it!
This is my entry with some paper whites, an angel and glittery ornament. (I haven’t painted it yet, it’s the old colour still).
Here’s my tree, in the new year I will have an upholstered chair and ottoman made for this corner so for now it’s the Barcelona filling in (it usually sits where the tree is anyway).
See the yellow around the closet doors on the right? That was the colour of my entire living/dining room for about 24 hours until the sofa came (way too much). We kept this piece just because you can see a part of the wall when you walk in the front door (I would never specify something like that, it has to be a happy accident :).
I'll be right over and I'm bringing the good champagne!
So YOU! I love it!
xo Lisa
It is so you, I agree with Lisa. Pretty, clean, crisp, modern and elegant for Christmas all at the same time. I love the combo of colors in the ornaments on the tree, and the raspberry wreath is absolutely PERFECT over the mirror. 🙂
I would love to send you a photo or two; just let me know what you are looking for in terms of "art."
Landscapes? Flowers? NYC @ 1980s? Recent NYC? Maybe a portrait?
Your fireplace and tree are soooo pretty ! It feels good to have some presents under the tree doesn't it ? I just starting wrapping tonight !
Gorgeous!! I LOVE the dining room table – it us just sooo lovely! Cheers! Becky

I'm so happy you are sharing your tree with us this year. It's all so beautiful. You did such a nice job.
Couple of questions…Did you buy all new ornaments to go with your scheme?
And I always thought the edge of a rug was supposed to go under the front feet of your sofa. Your thoughts on this?
Maria, Yellow raspberry, black and white and throw in a little lime, YOu are talking my language!! I love the simplicity of your Christmas decor everything just POPS!!! I can only imagine how excited you are to be in your new place this Christmas. Enjoy all your hard work, Merry, Merry Christmas,Kathysue
I hope to post my tree tomorrow if I can get some decent picts, we shall see!! KATHYSUE
The rasberry wreath is perfect. If I were you I would have a hard time taking the decorations down when Christmas is finished because they are all so pretty.
The greenery is lovely and pops of color are so natural. Beautiful home. Happy Holidays to you.
Love, love, love. Your feathered red wreath adds just the right touch of whimsy. Your dining chairs are fab.

So very beautiful. I think Santa is going to look awesome when he sits on your yellow sofa.
Merry Christmas in your new home Maria!
LOVING this!! Maria, it is so fun to see your place come together so beautifully. The sofa and dining chairs are so elegant yet still whimsical–a great combination. ox
GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS!! I'm completely jealous of not only your home, but the fact that you are ready to tackle Christmas with full force, I had a friend's children (2&4) put together my Christmas tree and that has been the extent of my Christmas preparations, I haven't even started Christmas shopping… oH My!!!
ALSO I didn't realise until reading this post, that I LOVE the use of raspberry as an accent colour… I'm off to investigate this palette a little bit further!!

I wish I could celebrate with you, Maria! Your home looks so beautiful. It definitely has the warm and inviting feeling of the holidays, but it's also happy, like you 🙂
I am a big fan of paper whites. Their scent works so well with the aroma of the tree. I'm sure your home smells as wonderful as it looks!
Happy Holidays my friend 🙂

I love your raspberry feather wreath too!
Your home is so beautiful, just like you!
Loving your new home so much, wonderfully done… I saw a few raspberry decorations the other day while out shopping and thought of you, loving the raspberry and lime green combo, very interesting how they really work for tree colours…Happy Christmas, Maria
Maria: Your Christmas table is wonderful. From Eddie Ross to you, winter holiday tables are taking on lighter hues. I'm all for it.
Best,
Liz
It looks amazing and you have settled into the new space so nicely! Happy Holidays my fellow Canadian!! xo
Hi Mary,
Yes I did buy almost all new ornaments for my tree. Target had some fun raspberry ones for only $2 each when I was there this past weekend, I found the big balls in a florist in Portland and the rest in 2 shops in town.
Re: the rug. Since I already have a wall to wall in my place and you don't even see the area rug until you are on that side of the room, I thought the size worked for the space. If it was any bigger I think it would define one corner of this large room too much which is why I thought the 5 x 8 worked.
Great question!
Maria
Hey, curious, do you have an "uplight" in the corner of your living room? It looks like it from the photo of your console with TV. I've been trying to find one that I like and didn't have to hide behind a plant. Your house looks very inviting!
Hi Cherie,
Yes I do, when my drapes were installed I thought that corner looked dark (and all 4 corners of every room should have some kind of light in it for atmosphere) so I plunked one that I had floating around to see what it looked like.
Usually I use uplights behind plants in the corner as it creates great shadows on the wall but in this case I really like it there just brightening up the corner, so I think I'll leave it instead of buying a lamp to sit on the entertainment console which might interfere with TV watching anyway.
I don't remember where I bought mine from but I have bought them for clients at Home Depot.
Maria
You need some messy, handmade childrens' stuff hanging about just to add character and much needed tackiness! I can lend you some of mine if you'd like. . . Your place looks beautiful.
LOVE…those rasperry pillows on the yellow sofa!
The decor of your home is beautiful this season! I adore the color scheme for your table!
Thanks for Sharing,
Firoozeh
Everything is gorgeous! And every time I see your living room I want to trade my black barcelona chairs in for white ones. I never dreamed how much I'd love the white! "Sigh" ….wish I'd known a colour expert! 😉
My dear Maria, I can SO see your distinctive style come through in your very lovely, pretty, feminine and cozy home. It's just smashing that you're using raspberry Christmas accents when everyone else is using red. Love it!!!
I don't like forest green so I'm using apple green accents in place of it. Why can't we bend the rules and make things work for us! That's what style is all about right?

Lovely! And I love your happy accident of yellow paint as well.
I love the close-up of your tree and ornaments! Very pretty.
Maria – ahead of the curve, of course, with your HONEYSUCKLE PINK (Pantone's 2011 Color of the Year!). really lovely! i love the yellow around that closet door, as well as your yellow chairs with the green textiles on your table.

Gorgeous Maria – pretty as a picture. I love the clear crisp colours. Can you tell me where your sofa is from? I am looking for an English roll arm and see them here and there but this one catches my eye. Is it very deep? Most of them are. Is it comfy?
I love your tree and I think the barcelona chair adds a very modern note with the sofa, etc. Lovely things and taste you have!!!
xo Terri
Maria..your house is so so pretty! It's fresh, bright, and wow–just like..I almost want to say candy. I guess it's something to do with the raspberry pink and the lemon.
I would never have imagined your colors making such beautiful Christmas decor. Your decor looks truly very..HAPPY! I love it!
I especially love your feather wreath and the hurricane lamps and greenery. You make modern look soft and friendly in a way that modern doesn't usually look to me. Great job!

I'm a recent subscriber and I enjoy your posts so much. I found you while doing a search on dark or light trim colors. I love seeing Colour Me Happy in my email box. I'm an artist, but I'm challenged by colour, so your discussions are helpful. Plus, in these days of HGTV, who doesn't like reading about interior design??? I'd love to win the Kodak photo book because I've never made one before but I'm in the process of picking out photos as a surprise for my hubby to document his 11 years as an actor (volunteer) in community theatre. Thanks for your posts!
I love your house and all the fun cheery colors! Great work. Reminds me a lot of Kate Spade
Your Christmas tour was beautiful!!! Love all of your decor.
Lovely. What color would you call your green napkins?
Just signed up for your emails, too. So excited.

Ha!Ha!Ha! Oh..your sister left such a funny comment! I just about died laughing. I was re-reading this so I could just look at your pretty photos of your house..and wanted to see if I had already left a comment or not..and then came across Anita's comment.
She's a hoot! Gosh..I just love your house at Christmas!

Love your colour scheme and decorating style. I was completely captivated by your picture in the entry way? Is it an original or a print? Can you tell me anything else about it?
It was from Homesense! Maria
Thanks! One of my favourite stores… just haven’t seen that one.
