An Evening with Friends

By 03/14/2009January 23rd, 201719 Comments

Albarosa from Brillante Home Decor invited Michelle from A Schematic Life and Patricia from Patricia Gray Interior Design and myself for dinner this week and we had a fabulous time.
Albarosa’s home is absolutely stunning! Filled with gorgeous art and books from Italy. I was struck by this beautiful vase filled with matching pink tulips on her coffee table when I first walked in:

We all admired her pink and green silk velvet Poltrona Frau sofa & chair!

We tried to get a photo of all of us but didn’t have any success with the camera timer. Patricia managed to get a couple videos of us though (we won’t be showing them however 🙂 I did manage to snap a lovely photo of Michelle snuggling Geronimo!

I loved this vignette with those colourful feathers in her bedroom!

I had to snap a photo of the lamps she had on the counter/bar area in her kitchen! What a great idea to bring in such wonderful soft lighting. Designers can never have enough ambient lighting. Overhead lighting is for cleaning and that’s about it!

Her whole space was painted cc-700 Smoky Green, just a gorgeous colour. She says it looks bluer during the day and greener at night. Probably due to all the incandescent lighting adding yellow to the colour. It looks so beautiful with all her artwork she says everyone that comes over needs to have the colour chip for themselves.

Her bathroom was 2123-50 Ocean Air. Loved the way she displayed the art and the custom made shower curtain!

Of course another light in the bathroom with another piece of art! She said she had the same amount in storage. We offered to store it for her 🙂 It was so much fun to hang out with my fellow designer bloggers, we didn’t leave until 1:00 am!

    Hi Maria
It was such a fun evening and the time went by so fast. I couldn’t believe that it was 1:00 AM when we finally departed. Albarosa has exquisite taste and is the most charming Hostess.
Thanks for the photo memories of the evening.

I think that we should all lobby Patricia to post those videos!! 🙂
Looks like you had a fantastic evening!!

There are two pink and purple Edwardians in the neighbourhood, Maria – was it the one with the third floor balcony that you liked?

The panaramic of Vancouver – I simply dropped the three photos in Publisher, shifted them around until they fit (if you know the city skyline you’d see the error – the photo in the centre is little closer then the side two), I locked them together (control-click each pic, then click the “lock” box below the image) and then I right-clicked on locked image to save it as a photo jpeg. Then I opened the photo in my viewing program – it has a simple edit tool that allowed me to crop the image into the long rectangle you see in the post. That’s it… Of course I’m happy to walk you through this over a glass of wine some time 😉

    Cheers!

These photos document the evening wonderfully! Albarosa’s home is so beautiful!

I have this habit of forgetting my camera disk in my computer…so I am glad you didn’t! Thanks!

I wish the screen was scratch and sniff to share the beautiful meal Albarosa whipped up for us!

Great to spend some time with wonderful ladies! and Mr. Geronimo.

  • DesignTies says:

Sounds like a wonderful evening you all had 🙂 One of these days, I’m coming to Vancouver to hang out with all you wonderful ladies!! 🙂

I really like the last picture, with the artwork leaning against the lamp and the mirror behind the vignette 🙂

    Maria,
I always find your advice helpful and love looking at the colors you mention. cc700 in Benj. Moore isenchanted forrest and there is no listing for smoky green. Would you clarify the color? Thanks.

sounds like you ladies had oodles of fun!

Thanks for sharing those photos and colors with us. It is always fun to see inside a real persons home (not just a home styled for a photo shoot). I love blue/green colors that change with the light.

  • Meade Design Group says:

Albarosas’s place is stunning and as classy as she is. It totally fits her sense of style – traditional with some modern unexpected moments.

I want to host a blogger get together one of this days so you all will have to come to Victoria(lol)

Hi Maria, Thanks so much for the photos and thanks to your hostess. They’re wonderful. I love the ambient light in the kitchen, too. And the pink and green chair, together with the pink tulips, made me sigh out loud. If I had to pick one color combination before I die (hmm…how would this ever happen), that would be it. When I do floral design I so often fall back on greens and pinks together. Do they work so well because they are complementary, do you think? Anyway, lovely.

  • Brillante Home Decor says:

Thanks so much Maria for the great post and pictures.
I am still blushing for all these compliments.
Geronimo also enjoyed the company a lot!

    To Mary Jo:
The colour… I can confirm as being CC 700-Smoky Green – Designer Classics Collection (I double checked it in my heavy bag of B.M. colour chips)

  • Brett Walther says:

What a lovely – and refreshingly diverse- art collection Albarosa has!

  • Colour Me Happy says:

    Dear Greystone,
The US equivalent to CC-700 Smoky Green is 1563 Quiet Moment.

  • Cakewalk says:

Wow; THAT is the color palette I’m craving. I’ve started by ordering the Eames Management Chair in a crepe ‘beachglass’ color. I can not wait to further the project and these pics certainly serve as some inspiration. Thanks!
