Like many of us, you may have installed or inherited grey wood look flooring from the previous grey trend. And now that you’re over the look of everything grey – you might be thinking you’ll eventually need to change them out.

But replacing flooring is a huge, messy and expensive job. So instead, here are my best tips to warm them up!

If your paint colour looks like it matches your grey floors like in my client’s home above, the first thing to do is choose a warmer wall colour.

Today, I’ll walk you through how to do that along with my best tips for layering up the room to distract from your not quite timeless and lovely floors. If you implement some or all of these, you’ll save a bundle of work and money – all while loving your room more than ever!

Hi Maria! Longtime follower and previous client. This post was so helpful. We are moving across the country, and had to rent a home via FaceTime, sight unseen. We got it for the view of the mountains from every room, and the roof deck. When we walked in for the first time, it was depressing. Grey floor tile, multiple shades of grey walls, gray granite counter tops, grey glass tile, grey “shaggy” carpet…and yellow pine floors. My heart sank as we have a beautiful home, timelessly decorated and painted using your advice.

Thankfully, I have your tools and will be trying my best to warm the place up. We will be able to repaint, and potentially replace the carpeting which will help. The most depressing room in the basement will be my office and art studio. It’s the only space without a view or real window. Only one boob light, so I’ll be swapping that for a chandelier and adding lots of lamps. Might reach out to you for help on that one!

Thanks for all that you do! You have inspired me to head down an interior decorator path, and I even staged my own house (to rave feedback) to sell. My realtor’s stager retired before our listing, she loved my style and told me to do it.

I’m going to use this experience to kickstart a more creative career! Saving my Pennie’s to attend one of your in person classes!
