Who else wants an Inspired Website?

By 10/21/2009January 27th, 201718 Comments

One of my biggest faults is that I’m impatient. Really. I hate to wait for anything. When I was married (a long time ago) my husband and I had just moved into the house we had bought together. . .

The flash intro on my website; Maria Killam Colour & Design

We sat down on the sofa after all the furniture had been moved into the house and for the first time I really noticed the ugly 70’s drapes so I immediately jumped up to take them down! My husband asked “Do you have to do everything right now?”.

So in case you didn’t know prior to reading this, I am a ‘not-now-but-right-now’ kind of person (which, by the way, does not mean I don’t procrastinate on the stuff I don’t like doing). I don’t like waiting (well who does) and the suppliers and professionals that I choose to work with are the ones that actually answer the phone (not automated voice mail) when I call, or they call me back fast, or they give me the answer I’m looking for–right away.

That’s it, it’s the way I do business with my clients and I expect the same from people that work with me on projects as well. Right Now – really works for me, ( I’m not really a control freak am I?). Quotes on product that take days or a full week to get back to me? I don’t last long with those companies.

This is on Marvin’s site – I love that!! My kind of professional!

The first graphic designer that I hired to design my logo and website was based out of New York (I met her in a course and watched her design a very cool logo in 5 minutes, so I hired her). After 2 months and just a logo design (no website design) I was on the phone with a graphic designer I knew that was one of my Facebook friends.

He told me what to do to get out of that predicament and designed my entire website in 2 weeks and I was very happy!

I too am a get it done yesterday person. So happy to hear I am not alone!

  • Susan says:

Oh I hear ya! When I know something can be taken care of right away I want it done and done.
Strangely, I excel equally at procrastination. 😉

Your website is gorgeous and I think most designers have that "right now" mentality. We are so visual and want to see it now. I seem to have a hard time letting my brain rest until I see it done!!! Your web designer is brilliant and has done an amazing job! Love your posts, keep them coming!

So interesting because certain things are a must like immediately; others like paperwork, I procrastinate!

The more I read, the more i'm impressed. Girl is serious about her stuff!

Right there with ya sister….but I must admit that in most cases "right now" is even a bit too late for me. When I think of doing something (like painting for example) in most cases I want it to be already done! haha! So I (reluctantly) settle for right now.

As for your website….well…I believe it is one of the loveliest, friendliest and most elegant websites I have seen in ages! Just like you, my friend.

  • Eliana Tomás says:

    Yes! Right here, right now!
    And no more questions…

I am with you! When I have an idea, I want it right then!!

    awesome job!

Girl…we are two peas out of the same pod! Patience is not my virtue, but some situations call me to stretch myself a bit! So I "patiently wait" all the while tapping my foot!

I love your "brand" and you have done well with your dream team to perfect it!

    Hi Maria,

Your website is beautiful! Your work is so stylish, clean and sophisticated.

I was smiling as I was going through your interiors, many of your rooms have furnishings and accessories we carry in the shop. In fact, in the orange accented room I have exactly the same sofa, in the same colour in my home.

Excellent post, good for you to have such a wonderful website!

I LOVE your web site design 🙂 It makes me happy just looking at it — your gorgeous rooms are an extra added bonus!! 😉

Seriously, both your web site and your room designs are amazing 🙂

How would you have dealt with granite countertop installers who not only took almost two months to do the install, but delayed it FOUR times, NEVER called you, and then broke one of your countertop pieces the day it was finally being installed?? I need to learn some RIGHT NOW lessons from you!!!

    Hi Maria

I've literally spent DAYS in your blog, learning, being inspired AND enjoying myself…I've been in this field for several years, but blogging is my new jouney – yours is fantastic!
So many things I've come across, most especially this one, make me go "seriously, are we the same person"? I would SO do the ugly drape thing.
Thanks for all the joy in here,
    Tracy
