Don’t you just love this fabulous textured, African-inspired lamp? It is truly a piece of art! It arrived this Monday along with the sofa and two chairs in pale green linen I had custom made for this client. Ignore the pillow, it was just floating around and I stuck it on the chair. The real toss cushions which pick up the colours in the area rug are still forthcoming!
I incorporated some of the pieces from her travels as a vignette on the coffee table. Look at this adorable family of hippos having a little tete-a-tete!
The coffee table is from Ralph Lauren Home. Even her little gecko fit right in with the coffee table book I found. Now picture this table without the books. These sweet little objects would start looking like knick knacks but now they look like accessories.
This dining room light fixture will most likely go into the master bedroom. We want something more contemporary in here.
I recently had it painted AF-230 Buttered Yam – I love it! And the coffered ceiling (below) is AF-370 Citrine. It’s just yummy!

Can’t wait to show you the rest of it as we progress!

Love the lamp and the way you accessorized the coffee table. And the dining room walls are awesome!
Love the colours!
You’ve convinced me on the books as pedestals idea. I was resistant at first, not liking to think of books as decorative items, but I gave it a try and must admit it works. However, those are hippos, not rhinos.
I have been dying to use buttered yam somewhere. what a fabulous colour!
It looks really beautiful Maria. That lamp is just gorgeous and I like how it contrasts with the soft upholstery fabric.
The Buttered Yam is a perfect choice for the rug; it looks really good.
P.S. That lamp must be from Arteriors. They make such beautiful lamps. What a great choice for the room. I want one too!
What lovely gray/taupe color is on the walls?
Hi Maria. Love what you’re doing. And I am crazy over the dining room colors. I am such a fan of color! I’m so glad to see your images with a strong use of it. Have a great day.
love the “buttered yam”. love the accessorizing (thanks for the tip on placing items on books). love the lamp. love the area rug. In other words, I love what you’ve done so far. Have a great day!
Everything is just beautiful. Is it me or do those rhinos look suspiciously like hippos? Great job (love, love, love the lamp!)
Great vignette(s)! The animals are perfect! Must make them smile every time they pass it!
love the lamp and that wall color. I think they need someof our gecko drawer pulls to finish it off, what do you think? great job.
What’s the trim color?
Hi Maria,
Nice work. The lamp is perfect. What color is on the walls of the first room?
Oops well I need to do a Safari I think thanks for the correction on the hippos 🙂
The wall colour in the living room is HC-83 Grant Beige and I don’t know what the trim is (it was already painted). I’ll have to check next time I’m there.

I was wondering what paint color was used on the walls in the room with the fabulous lamp?
Love the look of the room. Where did you find that lamp? I want one as well!
Just read latest House Beautiful and on the cover they have warm colors like in this place. Love the yam with citrine and your vignettes. Good work and more to come.
Maria I adore the lamp, it is all pulling together beautifully!! Speaking of pillows,

Hi Maria…I love the way the gecko and the cover of the book just look right. That’s a beautiful coffee table too. I was looking at your older ‘tablescapes’ post and the only thing I don’t like in some vignettes is putting vases containing live flowers and water on top of books as falling ‘compost’ and any moisture would absolutely wreck the covers (at the least) of the book underneath. Apart from that the post was very useful designwise, thank you!
Lucky client!
Hi Maria — I love your blog & learn so much from it! Can I ask about the area rug? Is it a Ziegler, an actual tribal rug, or . . . ? I don’t live in Canada but would really like to find a rug similar to this for our bedroom and would so appreciate if you could point me in the right direction!
Maria, I hope the gecko has a name. He is adorable! Great styling on the coffee table. It really reflects the owner and her travels and not just the current decorating trends (like mercury glass).
I’ve been wanting to paint our powder room Buttered Yam but my husband hates orange. He says he lived through it in the 60’s & 70’s and now can’t stand it.
People and their associations to colors! Drives my nuts.
Those colors are wonderful! Really bold and beautiful! I love the gecko so so much. I’d love to have one of those. And the photo of the coffee table was excellent! I love the way it was framed.
You did a lovely job arranging everything. :o)
