Kelly’s Sweet Woodland Nursery

Here’s a sweet woodland nursery design idea with Benjamin Moore Smoky Green wall colour from my design assistant. Take a look.

Photos by Macy Yap Photography

Kelly Parkinson, our fabulous design assistant/office manager/goddess-of-all-things-organized, had her sweet baby boy Luke just a few weeks before the pandemic began early this year. We miss her presence in our life so much!

Kelly and her husband Mike, also did a wonderful renovation on their home and I have a slew of before & after photos that I will share with you soon, because we were finally able to shoot the entire house with my photographer a couple weeks ago.

But first, here’s the nursery!

Love how the pale pink undertone of the light wood crib is repeated in the macrame and the horse artwork. Details like this really add to the cohesiveness of a well decorated room.

This was the room when they took possession before the immediate renovation:

My sister Elizabeth tagged along with me to Kelly’s home on the day of the photoshoot and we could not put Luke down. He’s such a happy baby!

When Elizabeth saw the paint colour  in the nursery she said “OMG I love this blue so much, I STILL don’t have the blue I love in my house” she declared as she looked over in my direction, haha. My sister loves blue and she says that to me every time she sees a new blue that she doesn’t already have in her home.

This colour is actually BM Smoky Green (which is actually a blue green).  You can find it as one of the curated colours in the BM VIP Collection along with many other popular blues, greens, yellows, pinks, griege, complex creams and the Darks (the deepest colours you’ll use over and over again) here.

Shop this woodland nursery:

Kelly loves daisies as much as I do, when she worked virtually with MaryAnne White on her garden makeover, she planted them too! I snapped a branch for a vase that day (below).

    Beautiful room and beautiful baby.

  • Natasha says:

Beautiful room! Is the colour on the walls Smokey Green or Glass Slipper?

  • Julie says:

Wow, Kelly and Luke are the sweetest! What lovingly done photos. Luke looks incredibly cuddly:-) Here I am (24 years later) having a flashback to when my blue-eyed baby boy was all round, cuddly and smiley. Is there anything cuter than baby feet? Nope, didn’t think so. Hahaha, great nursery design, but the two models totally stole the show.

Absolutely adorable, both nursery and baby! As a mama my only suggestion would be to get a cover to hold the lamp cords tight against the wall for safety reasons. It could be painted the same colour as the wall.

As a mom whose kids are not *that* many years out of cribs, I noticed the cords too! (lol) Also that the framed pictures will be within a toddler’s reach in a few months.

Which just underlines the need for flexibility in kid-friendly spaces. What works one month may be totally inadequate the next! And it keeps going as they grow up — what works for a young elementary school kid may really not work for a pre-teen/teen (I don’t just mean decor).

My son is 30, and the first thing I noticed was the cords too! I would definitely do something with them for safety reasons. Other than that, it’s a gorgeous room! So soothing!

Hopefully, this comment only posts once. I’ve tried to post it and keep getting an error.

    Dear Maria and Kelly,

This nursery renovation is just … delicious. I love how the nursery is so calm and soothing, showing off beautiful Luke. It feels so airy, and the art gives the feeling that Mother Nature is right there, just outside the window. Mama and baby shine, shine, shine. What a lovely photo shoot.

I work in Risk Management and Safety. This is a beautiful beautiful room. I don’t feel comfortable with the hanging electrical cords though once the baby is pulling up then walking.

  • Pamela says:

Love the nursery! Here’s the type of paintable cable cover that can make those beautiful sconces SAFE:

Beautiful room, beautiful baby, beautiful mother.

You’ll probably get a lot of these comments, but I too was worried about the cords and the strangulation hazard they present.

  • Lucy says:

Beautiful baby and mom. She looks so proud. Such a fantastic transformation to baby Luke”s room. The colors are soft and will transcend to when he is older. Good job and congrats to Kelly the designer and new mom!

  • Lena says:

Love the room but love the baby even more! Congratulations Kelly on your gorgeous boy:)

I have BM Smoky Green in my family room and it’s awesome!

  • Carrie says:

Wow! Love the Smoky Green. Very similar to BM Quiet Moments, which is one of my favorites.

  • Jojo says:

Beautiful nursery! But, I hope the blankets and toys are just in the crib for the photo shoot! Blankets and toys during sleep/nap time or when the baby is unattended are a SIDS hazard!
