What I Love Most about You

By 05/28/20245 Comments

My heart is bursting following my live in-person True Colour Expert Training in Chicago!

But first, it’s beginning to feel like summer! My outdoor furniture came out this week 💛

I just love all my boxwood clouds (I know about the blight but apparently these are green velvets which don’t catch it AND they are individually planted. Anyway, they sure are SO much friendlier and lush than a pile of jagged rocks, below (why do people do this?)

Here’s the before just because it’s so dramatic:

While I was in Chicago a week ago leading my Spring True Colour Expert Workshop, the sod in the pool area got installed and it now feels as lush as a golf course. Here the grass was just freshly cut on Friday (below).

I wanted the plant material behind the pool and in front of the fence to be low so the the eye travels to the Honey Locust (ie. the fairytale tree) as well as the greenhouse when it goes up.

The footing for our greenhouse has been laid and the greenhouse will be installed in the beginning of June. I found someone on marketplace to make my 3′ x 12′ vegetable garden beds, so that’s happening too!

This was our second live workshop since the Pandemic and things felt a little more normal which was amazing. I’m so happy with both of our new locations for my designer training.

We will be back in Dallas in the Fall!

Here’s what some of the newly certified True Colour Experts had to say about the training:

“It’s been a while since I took a class that is fun as well as informative. Her teaching style is better than traditional, information-driven instructor. It has to do with the energy that Maria brings into a room (in person)… I thought I had a good understanding of her system from ebooks, the blog and videos but the live workshop took it up another level. Maria has amazing energy, knowledge and practical stories of the why. It is also lovely to have a time with other curious, talented, color appreciating designers. The amount of knowledge in one room was exceptional.” ~ Natalie A.

“I learned so much and this is my third time! Each time I learn valuable, useful, practical tips and advice that I can actually apply! The real life examples she provides. The “tell it like it is” authenticity is so refreshing… How to get the best photos for your portfolio. The power of lamps! Just how easy it is to blame it on the light when it’s actually about the wrong undertone! And learning about Maria’s own business model and the fact that she has a coach and a consultant…You have given me the confidence to start my own brand as a decorator/colour consultant and content creator!” ~Rose S.

“Obviously the main content was the most helpful, but the little nuggets a she dropped along the way: “White leather from China is usually green-beige” “sconces behind a sofa against a wall”… things like that. I have 3 pages of notes that are just nuggets!” ~Kristyn H.

“How to talk to clients during consultations was very helpful due to my lack of confidence and the exercises were so helpful! We will never stop learning and mistakes are going to be made, but the material given throughout this course is such a great foundation, that I feel I have a better understanding of color than a lot of designers.” ~Kyra B.

“I have had my business for 22 years and I decided to attend this course to better understand the edesign portion of color consultations. [It was] Fabulous! Filled with an abundance of information that will take time for it to “percolate” and be applied.” ~Cynthia W.

    Hi Maria,

Thank you for the post about the house being the boss of itself, I think my husband finally gets it now. We have been going back and forth on our kitchen re-do for so long, and I think we have finally agreed on almost everything.

    Thanks again!

To me it seems important that you have such a variety of women who took your course—you are empowering women of various backgrounds to be more confident and secure in using color whether it is just a personal level or a professional one. From someone in education, being a message that is relevant, accessible, and valuable to many different individuals on their own levels is a true talent.
    A common purpose—an uncommon leader…

  • Arkene says:

Maria it would be very sad if the red building cannot be seen with the greenhouse. It speaks to your yard and gives a view of color with your yellow and green.
    Just my thought.
