Get Instant Halloween Vibes from Markus’ 10th Birthday Party

Can you see the happy smile in the cobwebs? (I don’t like horror at all so I’m not surprised I would accidentally create a happy face, haha)

My nephew Markus’ 10th birthday is in October. This year he decided he wanted a Halloween themed birthday party and since I was still in town, I thought it would be fun to decorate and make it really special!

We were so happy the day turned out sunny and clear! The next day it poured rain!

My sister Elizabeth dressed up as a vampire to run the long list of organized games that Markus had created with the kids!

William (below) was on point, following me around to make sure I installed all the spider webs!

It was a team effort. Terreeia (who spent 30 years in catering and management) helped arrange the food.

My favourite treats Terreeia made, were these apples filled with almond butter and sunflower seeds for the teeth with raspberry sauce for blood, haha! So creepy looking  (and yummy) we had to tell people what was in them before anyone would eat them!

Markus’ birthday cake were these fabulous cupcakes Elizabeth helped him make together. They had axes and bloody fingers in them 🙂

Bill (Elizabeth’s husband) came back from the dollar store with a big spider so William could lower it from the entry chandelier on unsuspecting guests with his robotics equipment (he’s quite the engineer) and he picked up some centipedes which I placed into the veggies and dip 🙂

And here’s the sweet birthday boy Markus (above)!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians! We finish up with our pumpkins and move onto Christmas a lot sooner than my lovely American readers!

My Chicago course just completed last week and I received this lovely note from Rosemary a brand new True Colour Expert:

I have just arrived home from an amazing 3 days with Maria and her team. I am a new interior decorator and thought this course could help me. That’s an understatement. This is the best course I have taken and it’s a fantastic value. I gained a new skill set that I will continually improve on. If that wasn’t enough, the people are genuine, welcoming, funny, and caring. What a life changing event. Thank you Maria, Terreeia, and the Maria Killam team! Rosemary Daniels, IAT Design, La Jolla, CA

And I really need your help with this raffle!! It’s only $20 for a ticket and I’ve only sold six!

HELP!

This is a fundraiser for a very good cause, the Women’s Leadership and Development Network was created to encourage and develop leadership, mentoring, education and networking opportunities for professional women in the home and furnishings industries!

And there are lots of prizes to be won!

Maria, I relate to disliking anything with a horror theme! I only like cute Halloween stuff. If it’s a ghost, it needs to be the most harmless adorable ghost in the world. 😉

I love horror, but of course stylishly! I do a significant amount of decorating for Halloween. The food options are so much fun and it’s amazing what the cheap spiderwebs can add to the scene. So fun!

I love seeing posts about your family and all the awesome ways your design skills make their lives more fun and beautiful. I especially love seeing posts about Elizabeth & her boys because it is so real life with kids & budget limitations. Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
I only wish I could be adopted. Where is the “Can I be Maria’s family?” e-design package? ?

I think you’re on to something! Loved the holiday themed post. I always look forward to your Christmas home reveal. What about an occasional party theme/decoration post? A summer party of some kind… event decor isn’t exactly your niche but you obviously have a lot of fun and are oh, so creative with it!

Wow! Now how many 10 year Olds will have a fabulous party like this? Both you and your sister are so clever! The color combo’s are delicious in themselves! There are so many vignettes to look at and all are perfectly organized. Only an interior designer could pull this off with such class and styling! Love it, just love it!
P.S. Do you happen to have any leftover cupcakes? I would love to have one! LOL

Super job by a super designer!
