The Colour of a Perfect Summer Day

By 07/30/2010January 26th, 201730 Comments
I have specified BM Summer Blue 2067-50 so many times for little boys rooms that the paint store would know it was my chart just by looking at the colour. It’s really fabulous. And truly the colour of a perfect summer day. Also great in a windowless room because it’s the colour of the sky, not too cool and not grayed.

What’s your favourite blue?

I love blue, and have a decent amount of it in our house. Grand Rapids is in our nursery, Boca Raton Blue in our living room, Wythe Blue in the powder room, and Wedgewood Grey in the den. (all BM paints) I'm sure that's too many different colors for one house, but we love it!

I just painted my dining room Sherwin Williams Smoky Blue and LOVE it!

Wow those pillows are POW-tastic! And that blue looks really nice. Would love to see it in a whole room in person.

Oh Maria, that first image is truly inspirational. Don't photographers have an amazing eye. I like blue although don't have any in my own home at the moment. I've specified it for clients but I don't have a favourite, just not too cold.

    Enjoy your weekend.

    Maria,

    Oops system hiccups.

What I was attempting to say was that I love blue both in my home and clothes. My favorite blue is BM 797 Athens Blue and living along the coast you "sea" many shades of blue. Who doesn't love denim blue and sky blues all year long.

I love blues too, but as accents. I have tried blues on my walls, but tire of it quickly.

Perfect timing!! I don't have any blues in my house but my husband wants our office to be blue. It has dark wood furniture in it and a cardinal red slipper chair. I am hoping to accent a with whites and grays. I am having a hard time deciding a blue though. I am looking into all of the blue suggestions! Thx! Love the pics!!

My favorite blue is Borrowed Light (#235) by Farrow & Ball. It's great for wall color but I love it best for ceilings. I love the name, too (that's probably a huge part of the reason I love the color).

  • Nichole@40daysof says:

My favorite blue is Delphinium by Valspar in the Laura Ashley collection. It's in my formal living room. It perfectly matches the color of the summer sky in the midwest. 🙂

So many blues to pick from. Love so many. I really like BM Jet strem 814, Tear drop blue 2053-60, Riviera Azure 822 and I think my Fav would have to be Affinity's Lux.
You have such great photos as usual. Have a great weekend!

That's the blue I love. Your beautiful bright boy blue. I guess that will be the colour of Noahs' room.

  • heather @ what's blooming this week says:

There's nothing better than a blue boy's room. Matched with a navy and sand/beige accent pieces, it's warm and inviting. Matched with white, it's cool and nautical. Matched with yellow, you're in the South of France. Too many different blues to choose from – just painted a Muskoka chair in Grenadier Pond – blue/green coolness.

  • Dale at Hospitality Re-Defined says:

That blue reminds me of a very similar blue that I painted my son's room for him when he was about 10 years old. He loved it.

Deep FONDNESS for blue. Am PASSIONATE about blue! Haven't really a favourite!

    Maria,
Your postings are always beautiful and inspirational, Thank You, I always wonder why there aren't almost any pictures and inspiration for young men's rooms anywhere…when they outgrow the classic "teen" room and want something more sophisticated (around 16) it is almost impossible to find bedding or inspiration for it. (talking about the name of your color! 😉 ) Thank you so much again, you rock!

For years I searched for the perfect blue for a white room with a blue ceiling. I wanted it not too sweet, not gray and found BM 807. I love it 16 years later! It's great if you want blue but feel you don't want blue on the walls.

Ahhh…. I've found "my people". I could talk about color all day long 🙂

  • Donna says:

Maria, That is such a pretty and bright blue! I can see why you suggest it for little boys' rooms.

I love the pictures you posted! I feel like the hotel we are staying at has that same perfect summer day feel.

I thought you would really appreciate the sunny green and orange here. I posted lots of photos today of our room.

My favorite blue, in the house would be a navy blue or a dusty blue. But I do love the cool sky blue from Behr that you suggested for our sewing room. I will so enjoy doing that when I've finished my two other big projects for my parents.:o)

Thanks for visiting and leaving the nice comment. :o) It's not easy blogging on the run is it?!

  • Donna says:

Wow–I was just looking at these pictures again. They really are so inspiring! I wish it wasn't so hot out here and I would feel more like it was a perfect summer day. It looks wonderful from inside an air conditioned room. :o)

I love BM Quiet Moments. It may look more green on the small chip but when it gets on the wall it is a wonderful, peaceful blue.

  • Sara @ Russet Street Reno says:

My favorite blue is any aqua blue – I just can't get enough!

  • Ava says:

I love Restoration Hardware's Light Silver Sage. Although "sage" is in its name, it shows as blue. It's the color of my dining room walls and the (accessories) accent color in a couple other rooms.

  • Beth @ Beyond White says:

Just painted each wall of a client's son's room a different blue, not something I'd usually do. Athens Blue, Nova Scotia Blue, Faded Denim & Paradise View. Her sister had created small animal paintings with orange and sunny yellow, lovely against the blues. The client called the room warm & cozy, not typical blue words…

  • Linda@ Lime in the Coconut says:

Ahhhh. Stunning colors! Ain't nature grand?!

I wrote three blog posts recently raving about my new favorite blue that I painted my foyer! It's called Rhine River by Benjamin Moore, and it is amaaaazzzziiinnngg! It actually has some green in it, with a gray undertone, which keeps it from being "too blue". I absolutely love it! If you have a chance, let me know what you think! As always, loved your post!

  • Lauren says:

Hi Maria! These are lovely – don't you think they're the grown-up, sophisticate versions of our Olympic colours? Perfect for BC =)

  • traci zeller designs says:

Summer Blue is fantastic for little boys! I love Wedgewood Gray and Woodlawn Blue — definitely favorites of mine!
