When Natalie Bahadur, Senior Editor at Style at Home Magazine, emailed me to ask if I would post about their Makeover contest; I had to say yes! After all, this magazine never fails to inspire me when I’m looking for decorating ideas for my clients!
This is their July 2009 issue [below], I fell in love with the flower arrangement on the coffee table (I loved the asymmetrical design) so I took a picture of it [above] to get it re-created for my loft photo shoot. I know, I know a scanner is what I should have used, but this is way quicker (although I admit definitely not as sharp):
Then I went to 6 florists in Vancouver the day before the photo shoot. Why did it take six? Because I wanted it to have the eggplant colour in it and do you know how hard it is to find an eggplant coloured flower? Impossible actually, it was some type of foliage in the end. And I even had to tweak it at the last minute to try and make it look like the magazine cover because it was huge when I arrived to pick it up (I should have taken a picture 🙂 and not at all like the image I left.
Oh well, the flowers were right and that is all that mattered to me.
Then when my client had her housewarming party she called and asked if I would get the same arrangement made with silk flowers (below).
So back to the contest! I realized I better write a quick post tonight because the deadline is not far away!

Thanks so much, Maria!!!
Okay I will send you an image of my den. It is den, office, sometimes art space, etc!I love it in many ways, however it is too cluttered. My bookshelves I have edited several times,
I'm gonna go take a picture ASAP of the basment family room. The guy that cleaned my carpets last week started laughing when he walked into the basement and saw the carpet and log cabin walls!
Looks like the contest is open only to Canadians? I'd love to enter our poor, neglected office/study/library. It desperately needs some love…and a cash infusion. 🙂
oh pooh, just Canada, eh? ah well…
BTW, i thought your arrangement was an improvement on the one from which you found inspiration!
Wish I could win it – I'm in the wrong country!

Pretty flowers! How nice that your client wanted to make the look you created for her a permanent fixture. And I like your blurry photo of the mag cover… looks like a painting.
