Last night IKEA had a media party to launch their brand new store in Richmond. They built one 3 times bigger right beside the old one which will apparently be torn down.
It’s always fun when colour trends arrive at big box stores and become totally affordable. This black and white throw will be a staple in everyone’s living room because it so crisp and graphic with pops of colour.
Like this raspberry sofa!
I bought this light fixture, I just couldn’t resist, maybe it’ll go in my new house somewhere.
Big Polka dots for your daughters room!
And it comes in my favourite colour too.
A black and white pillow to go along with the throw.
Purple and green are always fabulous together.
And if you are craving a white sofa and have kids, you can’t beat the price of this sofa and the slipcovers can be replaced for a song! I have had a few clients whose kids grew up with this sofa and they loved it!
Don’t forget about white cushions to sit alongside your colourful ones. They are such a great price at IKEA and come in a few different textures and sizes. If you have white off-the-shelf drapes, get some white cushions for your sofa along with some colour.
My sister Elizabeth still has her husbands lumpy black leather sofa in their living room along with 2 black chairs and a black ottoman. They have small children (as you know) so are not in a hurry to replace them at the moment. Recently we went out, bought some white on white RIBBA frames for the living room walls, some white cushions (easy to wash and cheap) and it really added a fresh feel to the room. So bring in some white if you have a black sofa.
Which is your favourite?

I want the light! Can’t find it on their website, though.
It was great to see you last night! Hope you had fun shopping! I stocked up on Ribba frames and a few lumbar down inserts- got to love their down inserts – so cheap!
Maria,
Love all of it. These days most people are really reconsidering what Ikea has to offer.

My son and DIL have had the white sofa for 10+ years, two boys (under 10 ) and a big hairy dog. They live on that couch and throw the covers in the wash once a month. It still looks great. Gotta love Ikea.
Hmmm…the purple & green attracted me but the stark black/red/white I just don’t see working into my traditional home. I always like the IKEA catalog and visit our local store 1-2 a year but don’t leave with much. As an aside…an architect friend used their cabinets in their family/tv room and really likes them though the assembly was a bit challenging.
You lucky duck Maria…having an IKEA close by!
Last year my daughter & I did the white pillow thing on her old sofas and, for sure, it freshened up the whole room! That light is incredible! I love the children’s area (@ IKEA) and all the fabulous kitchen stuff and the drapery hardware that goes around a whole room or anywhere. Thanks for this!
Have a sparkling day!
o, Paula.
I love that raspberry sofa and your new light fixture! I wish we had an IKEA nearby – the website is sometimes difficult to navigate easily!
It was great to chat with you on Monday night Maria! I agree, Ektorp sofas are the best when you have kids… can you say slipcover?!! 😉
I love all the color blends! Beautiful!
The purple sofa is my favorite. I think I need some purple in my home somewhere. It just makes me feel happy 🙂
