If you are going to install a tree in your home (fake or not), this is the one (below). It’s a fig tree and I’ve seen them in interiors reaching two stories high.
I found this one (above) today on one of my favourite blogs; Pure Style Home, click here to see her post with more images from Stephen Knollenberg. The one in this image might be real, but the fake ones look identical.
I installed one in a master bedroom I decorated for a bachelor last year [below].

Hmmm, perfect for a bedroom! Very restful! I could live there.
I never knew what type of tree it was— I might need one myself!
Love the bedroom you did- gorgeous.
and thanks so much for the mention!!!
xoxoxo!!
cool! those leather boxes are gorgeous!
Love the bedroom you did… Don't know that I need a tree..but I need a good imitation orchid for my dining room….know of any good sources..?????
I love the way the little fig tree links to the larger tree on the outside of the house in the first photograph! And I L*O*V*E your new masthead! It's just beautiful and says it all! Best wishes!
Maria,
I agree, if you are going for the wow effect go for a Fiddle Leaf Fig! I have a real one that I got from a local company that imports all of their greenhouse items from Florida. That's what we have to do in Lexington…boohoo. The Coach store here has one that is so tall, they have part of it wired to the ceiling. It is like a huge living sculpture.
Fun to see that you love them too!
XO Lisa Hey….stop by & go to the movies with me…i do wish we could really go together…maybe someday.
I DO need a tree or two in my house and wrestle with fake or not. I just haven't seen fake ones that don't look fake. Do you do fake in your house?
Blessings…
I wish my windows had views like that. Actually i wish i had beautiful windows like that.
large interior trees in some rooms are a must !
there is only so much furniture etc you can cram into a room (to get the clients needs met),and balance the design.
a tree is a 'g-d send' as far as i am concerned.

My mom had two real fig trees on our porch growing up. I loved those trees, and I love the way you incorporated one (real or not) into the bedroom.
Hi Renae,
I find there is always an empty spot where you need something green and the bigger ones seem to be harder to keep looking beautiful unless you have a house which has the perfect temperature, etc.
Currently I have a fake bamboo plant which is tall and was perfect in my last place but a bit unnecessary in the house I'm in right now because there are so many windows (therefore tons of green visually in my house) I have it in the corner but it seems to just be an extension of all the green I already have!
You have to spend more money to get something that looks real but that's why I like this fig, it's contemporary looking, dramatic and adds that hit of green!!
Oh, I love fig trees! I tried one from Home Depot in the spring, and it lost every single leaf within weeks. Maybe I'll give it a shot again but from a nursery this time.
My hubby actually wasn't a big fan of the fig, but now I can show him your post :). Thanks!
Beautiful bedroom Maria!
I'd love to have a tree like this in our home but I have such a brown thumb!! If I find a space for a tree I'll have to search out a top-quality faux-tree because I so can't stand cheep-fake plants! There are some great faux ones, though…

I LOVE having a tree in my living room. I usually have a ficus tree because I don't kill them like I do house plants. They do have to be beside a window and get at least indirect light.
I like to have the tree at least 6 ft. tall. You can buy a large decorative pot and put something in the bottom (like an upside down clay pot) so it will make your tree higher.
Beautiful room, Maria. And thanks for the tip about faux figs. Might use that one for my own house that won't grow plants!
Thanks also for the last two posts. Great reminders about paint sheens and I've put your coulour expert's book on my shopping list.
Have a Happy Weekend!
Sorry about my complete mangling of the word "colour"! That's what I get for trying to type "Canadian" with my "American" fingers!
I love trees for indoors, I have a lovely mini palm tree, it bloomed last year for the first time.
The flowers opened at night and a sweet smell slipped through the house:)
Brilliant, what a stunning bedroom, and what a fantastic blog, very helpful!
Beautiful bedroom Maria, when I can I prefer to use real trees. Some of the fake ones available look almost realistic which is great especially for 2nd homes where people dont live there all the time.
What a great bedroom! I love the fig tree, too. Not sure I could keep one alive, tho. My daughter has one growing in her yard and the leaves are great to use in containers.

Beautiful bedroom, modern and elegant. Not fond of fakes but I see your point. Can we see more pictures of this project?
Looks great! I am thinking maybe we need a tree to bring the outside in…
Hi Brillante Home Decor,
You can see more pictures of this project on my website, mariakillam.com, interiors, North Vancouver.
Thanks for asking!

Why, yes, I think I do need a tree inside! We have a tiny fig tree starting to grow in our garden but I never thought to have one in the house. Now you've got me thinking . . .
Hi Maria, love fig trees and always use them in my interiors. I have about five in my living room. A couple things I have learned about them. Water once a week with a low dose of fertilizer and never leave the trees sitting in water. The leaves will turn brown and fall off. Paradise Plants Inc on 28th street in Ny has spectacular ones and I have have also purchased some very nice ones from Home Depot.
Hi Maria
What a gorgeous bedroom you decorated for your bachelor client.
Hi Maria, thanks for your inspiration! Great blog!
