Andrea Brooks attended one of my True Colour Expert Workshops last year and her beautiful home is being featured in At Home in Arkansas this month! Congrats Andrea, your home is stunning!
Love the pink, raspberry and green living room!
Andrea mentioned my workshop in her interview below:
At Home in Arkansas: With one designing woman in a house full of men—your husband, Jay, and your two sons—what role did color play in creating a comfortable family home?
Just as I would with clients, I considered how we would live in the home and tried to have elements that please all of us. Color flow throughout a house is extremely important—it sets a mood and a tone for a space. I’m pretty fearless when it comes to color and love to incorporate it into my designs. Recently, I attended a course by Maria Killam, an internationally known color expert and blogger. The knowledge I gained helped me hone my skills and understand the importance of undertones. Here, I used grays with variations of blue undertones, from a dark slate color in the family room that brings in some masculine energy to a blue/gray in the kitchen that’s light and happy.
I always love wing chairs at a dining room table. This colourful home deserves to be in the pages of a magazine! I have included some images of her home in this post but you can see the rest of them here!

What a beautiful use of colour!
Love the colors but don’t forget the ceiling…white looks unfinished.
All of my ceilings are actually painted a color other than white, just hard to see in the photographs. 🙂
Gorgeous, bright and airy. Lovely.

I have been reading your blog for a few months now . I am building a small home in Santa Fe, NM. I was wondering if you could let me know if any designers from NM have taken your class? I would love to be able to consult with someone about color but with your class behind them I know we will be speaking the same language.
Thx,
~Sharon
Stunning! I was in the class with Andrea. She is such a sweet person. Yay Andrea! Love the dining room. You must feel so good Maria- another color superstar thanks to you!
This is the highest compliment—duplication! Beautiful work!! Also a perfect illustration of the emotional
(happy) power of color. I am prodded here to get out of my own “safety” zone and bring cheer to my house of boys!
Maria, I really believe that your workshops should be the norm for “masters” of any art/skill. Instead of schools. Kinda like the old Master-Journeyman-Apprentice system—the master took a few at a time under his wing so that future generations could have that expertise. Your workshops themselves are a pattern that should be duplicated in many other fields.
Wow! What a gorgeous home. Clearly a talented person with a vision. Definitely makes me want to take Maria’s workshop.
I had a question about the floors in the kitchen photos attached to the article – they are grey, correct? Would a glossy finish work on the same tile? Would the same tile in glossy white work in the kitchen and how would that change the feeling in the space? The grey seems to ground the space, and bring some masculinity to it?
Beautiful! I love the color combinations she chose. You’re a great teacher!
The front door is a big statement — totally great invitation to a beautiful home. What a colour! Stunning.
Way to go Andrea! Looks like the True Colour course was a good investment. Your color sense is truly inspiring.
Wow. Stunning interior. I love that it is classic, bold and fresh without looking trendy. That’s an art to achieve. Bravo. Love your closet office by the way.
On a totally random note, Adore online mag pages 64 and 65 totally made me think of you Maria!
Enjoy,
Cathy
Beautiful home, beautiful colour combos. So refreshing and inspiring. -Brenda-

Thank you Maria for including my feature on your blog. Your workshop, blog and e-book have been invaluable to my design work in my own home as well as clients’. So thankful that you are willing and able to share all of your knowledge with us!
Absolutely stunning. I wish I could move in! May I ask what colour is the pink?
