Decorating My HomePrimary Bedroom

Progress in my Master Bedroom

I have finished decorating every room in my house except for the master bedroom. Isn’t it true that the Master is the most neglected room in the house? I don’t have the excuse most people have (especially because I decorate for a living) however, most people decorate their living room first, then their kids rooms. After all a kids room is their personal space so it becomes more important than the Master Bedroom.

This is the sitting area, with my turquoise loveseat and chair from Martha Stewart Furniture. I have an old ottoman that is currently covered with this off-white faux fur throw. I plan to slipcover it very soon. The big piece of art is by Anita Lindblom.

The wall colour is BM OC-15 Baby Fawn.

Ever wondered how to hang art around thermostats (above) or light switches, etc? Don’t try to ignore it. I would have loved to just hang this piece by itself but that was impossible with the thermostat in the way so I arranged the other 2 pieces with it! Do you like my green mossy footprints? I pulled it from one of my colour books.

This fun mirror I picked up from HomeSense the other day!  I like how it ended up repeating the tufted look of my furniture.

Elizabeth and Bill were here overnight. We got to hang out with my nephews while mom and dad had a special Valentines Day dinner at the Four Seasons.

William found my hat from the French Basketeer. And they both automatically posed for a picture! So adorable.

Is your master bedroom decorated?

It must be that time of year. We just purchased a new bed and mattress so I am making a few changes to my master bdrm. I love what I have so I am keeping the same look or feel even with a new addition of a King bed instead of our existing Queen. Change is hard when you really love what you have. I think it is easier just to start from scratch. you can read about my upcoming changes in my last two post!! I know you will do something wonderful, you always do. Yes the master is the last room to be done in our lives, Kids and family areas are always first! Kathysue

I am interested in the ceiling paint treatment. Did you do that border effect? Can you tell us more about it?
Working on the master bedroom this month!

LUV the lantern. Outside, covered area, garden or entryway? xo

btw, your sitting area and nephews are beautiful, too :)!

  • I adore your gold lamp! How elegant. And yes, you do need that lantern. It’s perfect.

Selfishly, I have decorated our master bedroom. We painted a chocolate brown accent wall in the room (and I never considered myself an accent wall kind of person) and hung antique white china against it. It a very cozy room and I love it!

i love that yellow lantern!. I have been really attracted to that yellow all my life. To me it’s the color of Joy. Congratulations on finally doing your master suite! You know it’s really more important that people realize. If you think about it, you spend half you time at home in that bedroom; much of it asleep; but it’s the last thing you see before you go to sleep and the first thing you see when you wake up. It should make you feel good.

  • loved the way tobi raved about you, maria! and yes, you totally need that yellow lantern fixture – it is fabulous 🙂

Love what your doing in your master, you took an ordinary corner and made it incredibly special,it is really pretty! I love your talent, thanks for always sharing it with us!

  • Hi Maria. I am so in love with the color and tufting of the furniture. So so stunning. And of course, the nephews turn the beauty up a notch ! :). Have a great week.

  • Congratulations on the shout-out from Tobi – I love her elegant blog.

I smiled that I had made the right choice as I saw the coral piece on the side table in your first photo. I just bought the same one at West Elm a couple of weeks ago AND sits beneath a brass lamp too!!

  • LOVE the new turquoise pieces! They are so pretty!! I can’t wait to see what you choose for the ottoman. I always think it is such a shame that master bedrooms are so often neglected … It’s such an important space for respite.

Maria, I love the soft color of your walls against the turquoise pieces. Which paint shade is it?

  • I love the Anita painting! She’s so sweet, and her paintings are so colorful. I love visiting her studio whenever we’re on the Coast. Also, great idea to incorporate the thermostat in that art arrangement, thanks for that tip. Just ends up looking like part of the collage!

  • It looks great!

In our last place, I was actually pretty good about decorating our master bedroom. And in our new-ish house, it’s definitely getting neglected big time. We’ve just finally gotten a dresser, so we’ve been living out of suitcases for months! 🙂

Our master bedroom is finally next in line for decorating, too :). Yours is very pretty and serene.

Just finished my new office/guest bedroom and are in the midst of a little bed/dresser update for my son, then finally on to our room. Fun to think about…

You absolutely NEED that yellow lantern. I’ve been drooling over it, but it’s too bright for my home.

Love the MS furniture. Very nice post, Maria

  • SandyCGC says:

Maria, first time to post. Not a professional but have learned so much from you and have a bunch of questions for later.

But most importantly…you definitely have to get that yellow lantern. Yellow is a wonderful feng shui color, especially in a kitchen or living room. Claim it now!!!

  • Maria, your sitting area is so pretty! I love that piece of art. I had to do the same thing with our thermostat. It’s just off center over the piano. Phooey!

The yellow lamp is fabulous! I really enjoyed this post. We usually decorate the master before the kids rooms, but that’s because they like to do it themselves. I sure wish they would let me influence them a little more…but no way. LOL! That’s teens for you. 🙂 It’s always interesting seeing what they come up with.

  • Lizzie says:

Love it all…I think the lamp is by Laurie Smith. Am I right?

  • Love your bedroom! The sofa and chair are just gorgeous. And your nephews are adorable too!
