Decorating My Hometablescapes

Happy New Years Vignette

By 12/31/2012January 28th, 201721 Comments

I took all the holiday decor down yesterday. It was a rare, beautiful, sunny day and it took most of the day.

This side of my family room has looked the same for months so I took everything off the table and started again. My best friend Tami gave me these fabulous orange bowls for Christmas so I puttered around and created this tablescape.

I had saved 3 potted plants that had miniature daffodil bulbs in them from last Spring, so I fished them out of the storage room, gave them a rinse and I’m forcing them in the rectangular vase on the left (above).

There’s a small storage room attached to our garage with rows of shelves designed for canned goods. I use it to store paint cans and all my miscellaneous home decor. I have so many different sized vases (you can never have too many vases) and all kinds of items, I’ll show it to you one day. Anyway I found a few faux Granny Smith apples for the low bowl.

These 3 green balls I brought home all the way from Houston a few years ago. I LOVE them for how green and fresh they look. The large faux coral I found from HomeSense and the orange bird votives are from West Elm.

Oh and did I mention I have a bad cold. I never get sick but this is the second Christmas break where I’ve been down and out. Isn’t it strange that suddenly when you have time to get sick it happens? Very strange. I’ve missed every party this week because of it (and I rarely get invited to parties too, such a bummer).

Pretty tablescape! Love those orange bowls and birdies. Hope you are on the mend soon. (I think there should be a re-do when you miss a party due to illness.) Happy New Year, dear girl!

Hooray…hooray…my fav console table has resurfaced!! Beautiful tablescape too.

  • Carol says:

Oops. Sorry. Was so excited to see the table forgot to say, “feel better”.

Everything looks quite lovely and “fresh” ready for new beginnings. Can relate to the cold. I spent Christmas with Louise and Christmas Day was in my jammies all day. Two weeks prior to, had a cold and chills and thought I was over it but resulted in “heady” feeling – equilibrium was off. Was still a very pleasant day and Louise cooked up a delightful vegetarian dinner.
All the very best and success to you for 2013 and big hugs to Helen and the girls. Jxx

Hi Maria, So sorry you’re sick—my mother-in-law used to say: “Go to bed ’til you feel better.”….Good medicine, right? But do we do it? Your table looks so pretty–you always make beautiful vignettes…
I am following your advice and going towards the orange/coral idea in my LR. Had a credit (from 2004!)
at a local furniture store. Ordered a coral velveteen chaise with a gorgeous coordinating lumbar pillow,
made to my specs! I’m getting excited. Will send you a photo when it arrives. Happy & blessed New Year,Maria. xo, Paula

Hi Maria – You (and your blog) have been one of my greatest delights in 2012. Thank you so much.

I wish you a wonderful new year – with your house, your business, your family and friends.

Bad timing with your cold – holiday parties are usually so special -so I agree it is a bummer to miss them but enjoy your “enforced” relaxation. I suspect you get very little of that luxury.

Just re-visited last year’s post about “what to put under a console.”. What is under it now? Does having it against a wall change things?

    • Maria Killam says:

Not really, my point was that if it’s open like mine is, keep it simple and pretty. You can pretty much see everything on mine right now. Maria

  • mrsben says:

Sorry to hear that you are feeling under the weather Maria but I am well ahead of you in that respect as my month for illness was October. As long and as drawn out it was the upside is; I felt it built up an immunity against all the Winter nasties. (The same thing occurred last year.)

Am loving your new vignette as the colours are so HAPPY. Get well sooon …… and …..

Bonne AnnĂŠe Ă  vous et au vĂ´tre!

Happy New Year Maria! Love your console table! I have a cold too.. But the worse part is that my 14 month old baby too 🙁 hope you are feeling better now

  • I love your vignette with the orange bowls – I bet it makes you smile when you walk past it. I hope you are feeling better soon. It is such a bummer to be sick over the holidays and miss the parties and special events. Thankfully we had a healthy holiday and just got back from the cottage where we enjoyed perfect winter weather.

  • GaBi says:

Happy New Year Maria, your console table looks very cheerful, at the same time elegant.Next time when you feel something is coming to get you as a cold, just have a very hot soup with lots of chili peper / strong as much you can eat /and you will kill the bacteria on the beginning. It works only when you do it on a very early stage. I have received this advice from the ayurveda doctor and it worked for me as a Swiss watch.
I hope you fell much better, all the best to you
