My whirlwind, very fast trip to New York is over and I’m running out this morning to pack up my car full of lighting because every single fixture in my new house needs to be replaced. Here are a few more highlights of my trip:

1. Did you know the latch on this window is called a rat tail latch? I did not.
When my client Nancy read that I would be in New York this week she emailed me ASAP and asked if I’d have any time to come to her house to consult with her. Since blogfest did not officially start until 4:00 pm Monday, I spent the better part of the day at her fabulous home in New Jersey! I’ll post more about the consult later. The tile she had chosen for her bathrooms is something to copy!
2. A great example of a timeless hardwood floor colour in a contemporary space (above).
This was featured at the Elle Decor Concept House. Here’s a view of the outdoor patio, stunning!
3. Black, White with hits of strong colour is a trend not a fad.

Benjamin Moore presented their annual ‘Colour Pulse’ trends report for 2013. They announced that ‘black and white’ was not as strong of an influence anymore and I’m here to tell you that I totally disagree. See my first statement above. As long as bright colour is here–and it’s not going away anytime soon–black, white and gray will be right alongside it.
ps. See the bluer green in the above photo? Love it! I talked about green going bluer in this post.
4. Glassy Baby was a big sponsor at our luncheon at the Museum of the City of New York.
Stunning candles and a totally inspired story to go with them. 10% of sales of these handmade beauties go to charities that support cancer survivors.
5. Laura Trevey is a fabulous watercolour artist. I have one of her pieces in my Tiffany Blue office. Â
Meeting new friends and seeing old ones was the highlight of this week!
I’m guest posting this May on the Woman’s Speakers Association Speakerpalooza 2012. See my guest post ‘Blogging Changes Everything’.

maria,
So awesome meeting you! I’m grateful for a new colorful friend!

Hello Maria,
I cannot wait to hear and see the lighting you brought back from NYC. I need some inspiration!!
THANK YOU!
Maria! You are way too kind, and I thank you for the shout out. However, the pleasure was ALL mine. I am thrilled that we finally met in person. You are everything and more that I had imagined.
Looking forward to our next event together,
Laura
Love learning new things! You’re right about black and white. They are like a right arm – will ALWAYS be there. The colors that go with it will change.
I still love the yellow greens. Even though the blue greens are ‘refreshing’, some people are still leery of the pistachio look they may get. I guess they just have to choose the RIGHT green!
I’m loving the bluer green trend right now. My favorite in this selection is BM “whythe blue” . I have it in my bathroom and love how it looks blue one minute, green the next depending on the light.
What is the green/blue color in the photo and who makes it? Love it! I have BM Sea Glass in our bedroom. This look a bit blue-er than that, right?
Hi Maria,
just surprised by the caption “Katie Leede Bedroom at the Elle Decor Concept House Brinjal No. 222 Farrow & Ball”.
Was this supposed to be a link or a caption to one of your pictures? If so it must be a mistake as Brnjal is a deep eggplant color which I don’t see here….
Good luck with your lighting 🙂
Those Glassy Baby candles look gorgeous! I want a whole rainbow of colours!
