This weeks colour rescue another room for my Sister-in-law in Toronto. When I stayed there for a week in January,  I had a blast helping her transform three rooms in her house.

Yellow and turquoise room

You already saw the two part rescue of her family room here and here.

It can be hard to let go

Antoinette’s husband passed away 14 years ago, leaving behind a remarkable collection of art that once filled their spacious 10,000-square-foot home—a place where each piece was displayed. When she later downsized to a 4,500-square-foot house, it simply wasn’t possible to accommodate the entire collection but it was hard to know what should stay and what should go.

Until I arrived and started moving things around. Once a room is laid out correctly with the right pieces, it’s hard to add something that clearly doesn’t belong, back into the space.

Here’s the sitting room before:

Some great advice

My spiritual coach Anurag Kumar also lives in Toronto. He came by with some brilliant advice you won’t want to miss in this weeks colour rescue episode!

Since this room was too full to begin with, the only extra decor it needed was an area rug (this house didn’t have any rugs until I arrived that week). And a new piece of art to replace the 8 brown carved tiles on the focal point wall.

We picked up these two pieces for the house and installed the one on the left in the sitting room. It’s actually kind of amazing how good it looks in the room and how ‘meh’ it looks here (below).
