My mom’s new drapes match the fall foliage outside! So pretty.
Before
Most living rooms really are so sad without drapery (unless it’s super contemporary of course). This room has three windows and even with all the colourful furniture and pink walls it was still lacking a feeling of warmth. Also the rectangular oak coffee table simply had to go. You can see the brackets (above) because I only thought of taking the “Before” photo at the very last minute.
After
I had stopped at HomeSense on the way out to my mom’s place last week and spied this little round table (the floral area rug also came from there which happily pulled all the colours together). Keep in mind toss pillows are still coming.
My mom loves doilies. The TV has not been mounted yet, at first we were going to put it smack in the middle above the fireplace but she missed looking at a piece of art there so we moved it over and hung this print from a close friend.
I love the gold frame against the pink walls (more doilies).
This was the pink living room that inspired my moms’ pink – BM 2011-40 Old World. This pink is more strawberry than the pink (above) which is more of a bubblegum pink, BM Pink Begonia.

What a lovely room Maria. It would be perfect for my mom too.
Love the drapes, love the wall color, love the rug and the round table! your Mom is so lucky to have you helping her
Thanks for the info on the sideboard Maria. I really
appreciate you taking time out of our busy schedule.
Draperies make all the difference when it comes to
warm and cozy. Fun color scheme love the rug.
Oh my goodness!! I have 4 similar windows plus a door in my (large) LR and NO Drapes at all- what a difference!! I have lived here for 20 years and love the light but would love that ‘finished’ look even more! I need major help!! lol
What a pretty room ! I love the way drapes make every room cozy.
Looks great Maria! Your mom will love coming home to this colourful, beautiful home.
I love that green sofa!!
Thanks for the great consult today Maria, what you suggested is exactly what I was looking for 🙂 I see what you mean about the fireplace now, it looks very clean.
Love the pink walls!
That room is lovely. I say, let’s have a doily revival! I’m intrigued by the curtain rods. I’m glad you kept them dark–without going to black. Just right, now that I see it and think about it.
That is the prettiest room. What a great comparison to the inspiration. You know I love a good drape!! It must make you feel good to put such a pretty place together for your mom. Have a great day, Maria!
The space is coming together beautifully, and those drapes warmed it up instantly. Your mom must be thrilled. xo
For some reason the Before pictures aren’t loading on my computer. I like the new coffee table you found and the rug. Very pretty. She didn’t want a white one like the inspiration pic?
Window treatments make all the difference! It’s almost as thought the room — even though entirely finished otherwise — looks empty without the windows being dressed. Loved the change here. Lucky mom to have you as her designer on call! 😉
Love the new table, rug & drapes – adds so much character to the room.
That room is warm and welcoming…. just love it!
I love the drapes and especially the new round coffee table. I was wondering how the proportions thing works when the table is round. Usually a coffee table is supposed to be 2/3 the length of the sofa (or some proportion like that), but that would make a huge round table. My living room is square like your Mother’s appears to be as well so I can see the round works better in a square room.
I love so much to read how you helped your mom decorate. It looks perfect for her. :o) Those gnomes make me think of my mom. She would have them front and center for sure!
The new colors and the drapes and coffee table make the whole room look elegant.
Thanks for dropping by Maria. How’s the e-book coming? I’m sure you are swamped with the upcoming workshop.
Millicent, the friend I mentioned, is so sad that she can’t go to the spring one. It’s the same weekend as Tres Dias ( a ministry weekend she works at). One of these days, we will both make the trek and show up…just to surprise you! She longs to be a ‘color expert’, as she put it Sunday, “just for ME”.

Great example showing the before and after of adding window treatments. I always enjoy seeing the transformation the fabric adds to a room!
Wow – it’s all coming together, Maria; fantastic score on the rug!! I paint TV wires with left-over wall paint. It’s a bit finicky but it really helps to conceal those unsightly tv wires! 😉
Keep up the great work, Liz
Can I adopt you?
What a happy living room!
I just am thrilled that you found a way to work in your Mom’s dollies and trolls and other collections. The colors and furniture are terrific. But the fact that you made this work for your Mom says it all
The drapes really do make a difference.
I love how the rooms feels…so welcoming and cozy and makes you want to cuddle up on the sofa and stay awhile.
I’m certain your Mom is happy but I’d love to know what she is saying about her new space.
Great job Maria. I love it when you include photos of places that are close to your heart i.e. your home, mums home etc. It all looks fabulous and very unique.
Definitely the finishing touch to the room….they look great Maria!!
