When Brooke and Steve Giannetti of Velvet & Linen sent me their latest book to review, I couldn’t wait to share it with you. Not only does Steve design the timeless homes you’ll find in this book, but he also designs the gardens.

One of the best reasons to actually buy a coffee table book by your favourite designer instead of just perusing images online is it’s easier to get immersed in their aesthetic. You’ll notice details and consistencies of approach you will most definitely miss if you’re just scrolling photos online.

And it’s just beautiful in its own right sitting on the table. You can never have too many coffee table books, they are the perfect pedestal for objects and instantly help create a vignette.

A sneak peek

This is the Giannetti’s 5th book and the best reason to buy it is that their timeless rustic aesthetic happens to also be trending right now.

It’s the details you won’t want to miss. Like beautiful lighting. Brooke feels the same way about recessed lighting as I do, in fact I realized when I looked up this post on her blog that she was the one that called them swiss cheese, haha.

It’s much easier to point at the ceiling and just install holes, if you don’t do that, you now have to choose lighting instead which most people aren’t good at, ergo, the overdose of pot lights in most homes.

And notice the combination of knobs and pulls on the kitchen cabinets and the lowers on the island (above). If you haven’t already bought hardware for your renovation or new build, cancel the all 4″ or 6″ pulls on everything STAT.

I love the cabinet design with the drawers in the middle designed to duplicate the doors.

There are so many beautiful decorating and styling moments. I love this small carved mirror with the sheers on the thin rail for privacy.

Masterful use of colour

They are masterful at connecting the interior and exterior spaces. Like in this gorgeous room to sit and enjoy the sweeping views.

Although they are well known for a warm neutral aesthetic, they clearly know how to do colour well. In the image above, the green roll arm chairs connect beautifully with the landscape outside. And below, the art is such a fun focal point and they’ve repeated the burgundy in the upholstery and even the brighter red in the roses. The yellow in the painting ties in the brass fireplace surround.

I definitely recommend you add this book to your collection. You can get your copy directly from their shop right here.

😂 I was two houses away from your house in the harbor about five minutes before I read Maria’s email linking to this post and used to work often with Tom the GC before he moved. Loved your husband’s art in that house. Am currently working on homes in Hidden Hills, etc. congratulations on this book.
