Here I am in Madison with Penelope Trunk! We emailed back and forth months ago and she invited us to come and visit her and the farmer on the farm in Wisconsin.
The cornfields go on and on here in Madison! We took a walk on the property to find the cows. Along the way, Penelope asked what I thought of the idea to turn this rusty metal into a coffee table (below). I think it’s distressed enough, what do you think?

She wanted me to critique her decorating at the farmhouse but I found that hard to do because she has a great sense of colour (I helped her tweak them on-line when she first moved in) and Steampunk style and I think it works.

Penelope is just as real and expressed in person as she is on her blog and her kitchen looks just as charming in person as well. We picked eggs today and she says they can sit for weeks in a wire basket (above) on her kitchen table. I have imagined sitting in her kitchen having a conversation with her for so long it was a little surreal to be watching her make rhubarb pie as I sat and drank wine and talked. The farmer said when she makes pies it makes him feel loved so she bakes a lot of pies đ
Stay tuned, I’ll be taking photos with my iphone going forward this weekend!

Um … You're 90 minutes from my house! Why couldn't you have taken this little trip 8 months ago before I painted everything? I would have hired you to come on down and tell me what to do in this joint. Now it's already done and I don't really want to know if it's wrong. Anyway I do hope you have a chance to explore the non-cornfield parts of Madison. It's is one of the best small cities in the U.S. (although having lived there for four years I'm partial). Enjoy!
Nice kitchen! At first I thought that was a dog, but I think its a goat!!! Is it? lol!
what a hoot! good for you, hope you two have a great time.
Maria I am so happy you are visiting Penelope!!
Have a great time ( I can tell you already are!)

Maria, Thanks so much for sharing this 'real' moment in your life. (One of many of course.) I like seeing her house which is gorgeous! What fun meeting a blogger in 'real life'. Hopefully that will be us this January! :o)
BTW, I'm not going to be blogging for awhile and wanted to let you know. I wrote about it today but of course, I'll still be visiting here and keeping in touch. I will miss you and Anita and so many others.
We've jut got soo much going on with my youngest finishing highschool and needing more help than the other four did.
It was time to take a 'real' break…and it's pretty much until I'm done with Christian's school. That's two years from now. Yipes!
Who knows..maybe next year, he will be independent enough for me to do more blogging. We're just taking it one day at a time for now.
Love you!

I'm a serious fan of Penelope's and hope to hear more of your impressions of her farm, her life, her home…..
Bah! I'm a little behind on my blog reading so I was scrolling through and first saw the Frank Lloyd Wright post and then this – you were in Madison!
I don't know you at all, but that's never stopped me from being hospitable to strangers/new friends in my city. I could've shown you the awful tones of green & blue (normally awesome) they're putting in a huge gathering space where I work – bummer! (No one consulted me) đ
Anyway, I'm glad you got to experience some WI goodness – I do hope your hosts offered you some fresh or deep fried cheese curds, though. And a visit the Memorial Union Terrace?
If not, you'll just have to swing back some day!
