Sneak Peek of Christmas with the Owner of Studio B Yoga

Orange brick exterior yoga studio

Crystal Hasell and I have worked together on three projects now. First her summer/pool house when Crystal and her husband Rob decided to buy the lot next door to their house instead of a cottage 5 hours away. When you see their view, you totally get it.

Their summer house was published in the 2015 Canadian Home Trends summer issue.

Crystal & Maria. Lululemon had a pop-up shop at Crystal’s studio last weekend!

Then the following year, Crystal opened a Yoga studio near her house in the Fraser Valley. I helped choose all the finishes, colours and lighting.

Crystal’s entire focus with this urban yoga studio is on giving back to the community.

She saw an opportunity to join and be a part of local business and is committed to elevating the experience and appeal of the community.

The studio offers yoga for all levels as well as meditation, pilates, barre, hip hop and classes for children and youth. There’s space for 50 yoga mats! The boutique carries a small and carefully selected variety of local or sustainably sourced items.

For the lighting in the main studio, Crystal wanted something inexpensive because the space was 1250 square feet. We needed a lot of lights but we wanted it to be soft.

This was one of the inspiration photos she showed me (below).

I came up with this triple strand light from IKEA (below), you can also choose the size and shape of the paper shade, here’s their example:IKEA hemma lighting

We used the globe shades, below:

Then after last years Yoga studio project, in January of this year, Crystal and Rob decided it was time to renovate their home, I showed you the before pics here earlier in the year.

The renovation was completed this past summer and there are only a few more items needed before I can get the house photographed, but here’s a sneak peek of her holiday decor:

The indigo blue reindeer and stockings came from Superstore.

Foxes and twig sparkly balls

I found the faux lit twig orbs at the Pottery Barn. And some playful foxes for her kids to enjoy at Superstore. Then I wrapped a few gifts to create a vignette that you can see from her entry.

Crystal sent me this email to include in this post:

“I have known Maria for at least 8 years now, we met through her sister Elizabeth who I am pretty great friends with. We have kids the same age, enjoying healthy living, with a splash of wine, and live out in the country.

I didn’t know what to expect the first time Maria helped me choose colours for the summer/pool house! We chose the curtain and sofa fabric, which was my first colourful sofa! Just navy, but still that was major for me at the time.

When it was finished, every time I walked into the summer house I felt so much joy and immediately felt relaxed.

The space was complete, with no wall missing art, corner missing light, or chair waiting for the perfect pillow! It was perfect, and we didn’t have to think about it, one less item on the ‘to do list, horray.

We have a very busy life between work, family, community and social. The fact that we spend a lot of time in our home and want to enjoy our surroundings is very important.

Then fast forward to the yoga studio and then this year we were ready to update our 9 year old home. Maria called her friend Jan Romanuk who designed the millwork in the kitchen and 3 bathrooms and consulted with us on the renovation.

The two of them did what they do best and we ended up quickly moving into the basement with the kids and gutting the entire top two floors!

“Maria has such an amazing gift that has only become more refined over the years. The way she can start with one fabric and create an entire space that is so personal, inspiring and amazing is unbelievable! There is not one corner of my house that is not interesting. Every time I look around our fresh home, I smile and am so happy we brought so much life inside!

I would never have dreamed the finished result and am forever grateful that I trusted Maria with all the details! Crystal Hasell

Master Bathroom Before

Here’s a sneak peek of the master bathroom transformation (above). The windows in this room were awkward and not balanced so I designed two walls of sheers to keep the light flowing in, but obscure the window placement.

Everyone loves the finished result!

After

Thanks Crystal! I am so lucky to have such wonderful clients and I can’t wait to show you the entire house!

This is my last post before Christmas, I want to wish all of my wonderful readers a love filled holiday season!

I am so grateful to you all for your love and support!

What a beautiful studio! I love the choice of lights and the colors that you have chosen. It is very upscale and I am sure all of the clients just love it.
It is rather refreshing to see blue Christmas decorations. Who says that you have to stick to red and green. Nicely done as well.
I will be excited to see the finished reno of your friends house! Good job, well done!

A renovation can be stressful. But I would imagine having Maria handling all the difficult choices, it might have been less so. I can’t wait to see the rest of the home after that tease.
I love Barre & Pilates. I wish I lived closer so I could come to the classes. And the studio looks so much nicer than a gym.
Maria, I am sending you a holiday hug! I hope you & your family have a great Christmas.
