Remember that kitchen I styled in January for this renovation company?  Well here is the professionally taken photograph, by the talented Anna Beaudry (the photographer I hired for my website).

This stunning view of the city of Vancouver was taken at approximately 5:00 pm as the sun was setting.  The photo shoot started at 2:00 pm, but as the light started to change we were all so excited to get this final image of the day!  It would have been even better if water was pouring on the apples–but it was still turned off as the reno was just completed.  Photographers call a magical moment like this the ‘money shot’ in case you were wondering.

yep… that is a money shot alright!
it’s definitely a picture that would sell this condo – if that was the intent.

i must say, the reno company did a fabulous job redesigning this space – the before and after pictures: wow! i didn’t quite get at first glance that is was the same space!

btw, great job on the photoshoot…
if you’re ever looking for great photographers, i know some pretty amazing guys in this city!
    (if you’re ever stuck)

    have a happy day!

This is a great kitchen. Can you tell us how you specified the colors in it? Did you take the colors of the city view into consideration? I’d love to know.

Also thanks for introducing us to a new blog, Things That Inspire. I’ve already had fun perusing it.

  6. Maria Killam says:

    Hi Rebecca,
At first I thought–that kitchen [walls] is white, where’s the colour she’s talking about–then I realized you were talking about the colours I chose for the countertops.

Interesting that you would ask me this question because as I started looking around I thought, OMG which colours am I going to use. I thought of making my own arrangement but since I was just buying/renting this stuff that would make it hard to return so then I saw the orchid in the pot and I loved it so I snapped it up and that’s where the colours were chosen from.

In hindsight I would pick something less spiky looking, it’s such a huge focal point in front of that white pillar I wasn’t that thrilled with the way it came off in the end, but that’s how we learn.

My client was thrilled (if you look at his website all his kitchens were pretty plain until my photographer recommended me for this one) which he has submitted in hopes of getting an award.

  7. Brillante Home Decor says:

This picture is great as a selling tool. Your pictures were not bad at all and they give a better idea of the space and the details of renovation and decoration in a more realistic way. Both important.

  8. Renae says:

Lovely Maria! Well done, your photo wasn’t bad, but the professional really does highlight everything well!
    Blessings…

  11. DesignTies says:

    Another great post, Maria.
You always impress me with your honesty, humor, and courage! You give the greatest advice.
You are absolutely right on several levels.
Yes, we designers are way too busy looking at our client’s wall color to see the “condoms”!
Yes, I always enjoy blogs where I feel connected to the blogger. Usually this is because of their honesty and ability to infuse their personality into their posts.
I certainly know that is why I never miss one of your posts!
