Tomorrow is moving day and it’s a little crazy around here! Is there anything worse than moving? I don’t think so!
I must confess I got a bit defensive when Terreeia informed me that we own 23 lamps. Well I don’t think a decorator can have too many lamps, I’m sure that won’t be enough for our new house anyway!
My two favourite lamps that we own are:
The Tizio lamp upgrades the look of any table it’s sitting on!
And this Restoration Hardware reading light! Equally as fabulous!
We move tomorrow (Wednesday) and then leave Monday for my True Colour Expert Workshop in Toronto next week! And we won’t have a kitchen because it’s not being installed until June 15.
It will all be worth it in the end right?

so worth all the hard work and fuss… ps a designer can not have to many lamps… a true statement if I have ever seen one…
try to enjoy the day and have many coffee breaks, Starbucks if possible!
All the best with the move Maria! I’ve been thinking about you this week! And maybe have some Baileys on hand to go with that Starbucks coffee – just incase you need it. 🙂
Looking forward to seeing the new digs! So happy for you.
I too am looking forward to seeing the finished new home. Don’t know where you get the energy from but use it while you have it, LOL! All the best in your move.

It will be so worth it!!! Just think, tonight you two will be sitting in your new house hopefully enjoying a glass of wine – pick up a couple at the Dollar store if you’ve packed them all.
Good luck! What’s more exciting?! It’s all worth it. Hang in there 🙂
Just smile and go with the flow. Remember, at the end of the day you’ll be tired but oh, so much closer to your dream…nearly there, in fact!
No cooking!!!! Hey all of you friends of Maria in Vancouver & Yarrow—-invite Maria over for lunch/supper!!!
Good idea! Maria – give me a call if you need dinner or lunch.
Moving day is finally here! And you have so much on your plate, but take it day by day. Everything will be accomplished in time, so enjoy the journey, rather than focus on the destination. 🙂
Wishing you an uneventful moving day and many happy years in your new home!
Yes!
Lamps AND mirrors – I got lots of remarks on the number of mirrors, lol. Good luck with the move!
So happy for you, good luck with your new home !
I know your new home will be so worth the time and effort you are putting into it. I can’t wait to see the results. If I lived closer I would fix you a welcome to the neighborhood meal (in disposable containers) so you wouldn’t have to worry about cooking. Take care as you unpack.
Hey Maria! Good luck with everything! I enjoyed meeting you so much at Blogfest. I wish I was coming to take your color workshop! One day soon! Let me know when you teach one close to NC! Can’t wait to see that killer kitchen!
It is absolutely worth it and so much better to have the big stuff almost done BEFORE moving in! Way less stressful. (Ask me how I know.)Amazing how quickly you made all those decisions and how much you’ve already accomplished.
I’m totally with you on the lamp issue and agree about the Tizio. It’s amazing how a modern, quality lamp can transform any space, even and especially a traditional one, keeping it feeling current. I love that mix especially where light fixtures are concerned. My achilles heel is with chairs. Where do they all come from and why do I feel the need to have every iconic piece ever made?
Good luck moving.

P.S. Is that Mitt Romney’s car in the first photo!?
So worth it. Just consider this your spa vacation – lots of work and not much food. I”m looking forward to seeing what you do with your new house.
Yay! Wishing you all the best in your new home. xoxo
Good luck with your move!!! The dog on the car is hilarious!!!
It will be worth it! You can never have too many lamps. I am appalled at how few most people have in their home. Of course, now I’m going to have to go count my own . . .
I cry every time I move (a lot!).. it will all be worth it Maria, hope it goes as well as it can!
I think I need some NEW lamps! Great post… I’m moving to our new home over the weekend of June 15th! Will be anxious to see how well you survive first!
Maria, just laugh a lot! And know that no matter how carefully you planned and packed, sorted, itemized, etc., you’ll find that the ….. you’re absoluetely, completely, totally sure you packed in the ….. box isn’t there or in the next 10 of 50 boxes you go through. Can’t be helped. So again, just laugh a lot, drink plenty of your favorite wine, argue a little, discuss a lot and envision like crazy the plans for your new home which we all know will be wonderful, beautiful and very happy!
Happy Moving Day!
Never too many lamps – or pillows!
I have 14 lamps and I’m not even remotely a designer so NO, you don’t have too many lamps! Good luck with everything.
I’m not a designer, and we have 25 lamps in our house. They follow us home, like chairs. And mirrors.
Haha I know toss pillows too!! Maria
Hi Maria,
Good luck with the move! Cool lamps!
Once you are settled…a question. Lately I have been toying with thoughts of adding pink into my new place…so much of your blog speaks to the beige-pink horrors, so I think I already get that pink can go with blues…but I was wondering if you have inspiration for pink that ISN’T in a nursery? I can’t find anything that isn’t a nursery or waaay over the top.
Been there done that a few times, each time bringing more stuff and people… Make sure that you or someone you trust is there to check off all the boxes as they come in. Our movers suggested that and had a checklist for me. Also if it’s not too late, it’s nice to have one box labeled “Last on – First off” that you can pack with things you would like immediately — coffee maker, cups, etc… I hope everything goes smoothly for you — Good luck!
Sorry, Maria — just noticed that “tomorrow” was “today” and that you are already in the throes of moving. Hope all those 23 lamps made it to your new home safely!
Maria, I’m so excited for your move to the new house. It will be everything you wanted — just not this week! The doghouse on top of the car reminds me of the criticism of Mitt Romney doing the same many years ago. When you’re looking for ideas for a blog in a couple weeks, I’d love to hear how to pick a lamp. It’s my ongoing frustration!
Yes, it will all be worth it! Home ownership,Yea You! I think you will be happy for the break at the workshop. Light the path, baby!
